Up for review this week is the Total Flame Dark Line cigar. This Russian cigar is sold at B&Ms in the US, not online. It has a nice looking wrapper leaf and only requires a shallow cut to get a decent draw. Once lit up, we tasted earthy and sweet cedar flavors with some pepper on the finish. The flavor was largely the same throughout the smoke. Both samples required burn corrections. Overall, we enjoyed the simple but tasty flavor. The minor construction issues were annoying. If you have access to buy one, they’re worth a try.

StraightUpCigars: Mine has a peppery tobacco smell and perfect draw after a shallow cut. Just 1 big vein on the wrapper.
Terry1: Clipped the torpedo head and got a slightly loose draw. Opposite what I expect with torpedoes. Getting a pleasant cedar note.
StraightUpCigars: Lighting up!
Terry1: Lighting up!
StraightUpCigars: Mine has started out earthy and very peppery. A hint of sweetness in there somewhere too.
Terry1: Lots of smoke from the Total Flames. Initial puffs are dominated by wood earth. Pepper hits full throttle very quickly. Wow it’s sears the sinus. Little bit of sweetness way in the background.
StraightUpCigars: The pepper has faded on mine and it has a very bold charred cedar flavor in its place. Not a bad start, tastes pretty good.
StraightUpCigars: The burn got a little wavy on mine, I went ahead and corrected it.
Terry1: Same here. Pepper has eased up but not near as strong. Charred cedar and earth are present and a touch of sweetness. I’m hoping more sweetness come into play to help balance out the flavors.
Terry1: My burn is getting wavy. Not bad enough to correct yet.
StraightUpCigars: I feel like mine mellows with each puff, liking where it’s heading.
Terry1: I agree. I was worried with how it started. I wouldn’t have made it if it remained that intense.
Terry1: Okay now I need to do a correction. One side isn’t burning at all. Ash is getting flakey too. I’ve been ashing often to keep it out of my lap.
Terry1: Your comment was right with how fast it mellows with each puff. Pepper has faded and there is more sweetness coming through. I’m liking it. Interesting first third so far.
StraightUpCigars: It does seem to be getting better and better. Hopefully this one doesn’t get bitter at the end like the previous one.\
Terry1: I’m embarrassed to say I’m starting to feel the nicotine. I know I’m a lightweight but I’m only in the first third! I’m really hoping it’s my imagination or else if this continues the cigar is going to win tonight.
StraightUpCigars: It’s not just you, I can feel this one too. It’s got some strength.
Terry1: I agree this cigar is getting better. Really enjoying it now. The sweetness has balanced out the other flavors. Still has the earth and cedar notes, pepper has faded to the background.
StraightUpCigars: I like the retro band, reminds me of the grille of an old Cadillac.
StraightUpCigars: MY burn is completely lopsided again, going to correct. The burn is my only complaint.
Terry1: Wow just looked up this cigar brand. Didn’t realize it’s a Russian cigar. That’s unexpected.
StraightUpCigars: Uh, I didnt know that either. Trump send these out?
Terry1: Lol, another conspiracy.
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, these cigars are probably bugged.
Terry1: Looks like it’s widely available in the US except where I’m at. I’ll have to look for them when I travel.
StraightUpCigars: I think the pepper is creeping back into mine, just made me sneeze.
Terry1: Since I corrected mine the burn has been behaving. The ash stopped flaking too. It’s holding on now.
StraightUpCigars: That ash definitely falls fast, you’re right. Gotta watch out.
StraightUpCigars: Both of my bands came off cleanly.
Terry1: Starting the final third, flavors haven’t changed. Still enjoying it. My bands came off cleanly too. Starting to really feel the nicotine. I’m hoping I can finish this cigar. There’s some power in this stick.
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s getting more body to it. more and more pepper with it puff. It’s doing a full 360.
Terry1: I agree with the fuller body but the pepper hasn’t ramped up on mine. It’s there but not as intense as the first third. Maybe the additional sweetness is making the pepper. Or my palate and sinus got burned out from how it started.
StraightUpCigars: Lol, it might be the latter, that sure was a bold start.
StraightUpCigars: Mine is just about finished. It never got overly bitter or anything.
Terry1: Whew, I made it! I’m putting mine down. Getting too short and hot. Ready to rate when you are.
StraightUpCigars: This one was enjoyable. Good flavor and fairly priced. Burn corrections were annoying. Very strong! I liked it.
Terry1: Good cigar. I liked that transition in the first third. Remained consistent after that. Just got a little too strong for me although I did enjoy the flavors. It’s one I’d try again.
