Thurman Thomas Hall of Fame Maduro – Cigar Review

This week’s group cigar review is of the Thurman Thomas Hall of Fame Maduro.  I was contacted about reviewing it by Stogie Boys, and we were excited to smoke it after reading positive reviews.  The wrapper was a nice looking dark color with a fairly sweet smell.   It was only single capped, so after cutting the rest of the cap fell off.   Once we lit up it was a drag race to the bottom of the proverbial hill.  This was not a good cigar.  It was extremely bitter with immediate draw issues.  The flavor was likened to pencil shavings.  I personally don’t even know how to describe the flavor, except for saying it is the worst tasting cigar we have ever tried.  In 4 years of reviews we’ve never stopped smoking a cigar, but we could not physically smoke this one.  We wanted to like it, and our apologies go out to the creators (and to those that rated this a decent cigar, that is a disservice to your readers).  There will be no numerical rating for this cigar, it is not rateable.
On a side note, Terry was brave enough to try the other blend and said that one was smokeable, but still not recommended.

StraightUpCigars: The Thurman Thomas maduro has a sweet smelling wrapper that looks nice with just 1 medium sized vein. The leaf appears well aged and has a nice brown color. The draw is a little loose after cutting.

Terry1: My cigar looks and feels a little dry. The draw has a bit of resistance and I get a dusty pecan on the cold draw. The band is a crooked where it overlaps on the back. Doesn’t change how the cigar smokes but it might fortell sloppy construction.

IamDarren: same here. I got a lump or two and the cap is pretty sad looking. Nice easy draw, but the cold draw flavor is kinda strange.

IamDarren: ok, lighting up

StraightUpCigars: I lit it up and am getting a lot of bitterness right off the bat. Not off to a good start here.

IamDarren: starting to get a little sweetness but the finish is still quite bitter.

StraightUpCigars: I think this is the worst start to a cigar that I’ve experienced in years. I hope it improves real fast…

Terry1: This is going to be a long night or a very short one depending on how long we stick with this cigar. My draw closed right up. Recut it and now it’s open enough to smoke again. The taste is really bad almost like a chemical.

StraightUpCigars: Fellas, this cigar is awful. Would you be open to grabbing a different stick instead, or is it too late?

Terry1: I’m getting pencil shavings now. Never had a cigar with that taste before. I wonder if Thurman smoked one of these before he put his name on it?

Terry1: And its plugged again. Okay I give up.
