Sam Leccia Luchador – Cigar Review

This week’s group cigar review is of the Sam Leccia Luchador.  The Luchador has a sweet chocolate smell to the wrapper.  That wrapper leaf is bumpy and oily.  The draw is perfect after a shallow cut.  Once lit up, we found this to have a cherry-like sweetness, and rich earthy flavor with some pepper.  We liked the full bodied-smoke, and this one packs a punch in the strength department too.  Overall, the flavor was relatively one dimensional but still very enjoyable.  The construction was pretty good too.  We recommend giving this one a try, it’s worth the price for a single.

StraightUpCigars: This Leccia Luchador has an very nice looking and bumpy/oily wrapper leaf. It smells like sweet-chocolatey tobacco and has a perfect draw after a verl shallow cut. Really nice looking cigar.
7:45 PM
Terry1: Agree, I get that sweet chocolate note from the wrapper and mine is drawing well too. I’m ready to smoke it. Lighting up!
7:49 PM
Terry1: Lots of smoke from this cigar. Getting some earthiness, a touch of sweetness and pepper punch in the first few draws. Good start.
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lit up easy. I agree, earthy peppery start with some sweetness. Really tasting good right off the bat.
7:51 PM
StraightUpCigars: Thanks for waiting for me. We made burrito bowls in the name off the “holiday”
7:53 PM
Terry1: I screwed up and had teriyaki chicken. But I’m going to make up for it and have some Patron Silver with the Luchador tonight.
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol, I’m the opposite, Mexican food and American beer (Leinenkugels)
7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Very convincing description off Leccia’s site of this cigar. 5 different countries of tobacco, no fertilization used.
7:58 PM
Terry1: I’ve been admiring the band. I love the concept and the artwork. I just noticed at the bottom of the mask are tobacco leaves. Leccia did a good job.
7:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: I didn’t notice the leaves. I like it too. Is that the Mexican, Italian, or Irish flag colors? I can never tell the difference
8:05 PM
Terry1: Pepper is still strong in the sinus and the sweetness is getting more of that chocolatey note the wrapper had. I am having some difficulty keeping the cigar lit. Whenever I set it down to type it takes several puffs to get it going again.
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think mine is calming down a bit. It’s taking on a richer/meatier earthiness. Less pepper. That stinks yours isn’t staying lit, mine is beehaving well.
8:12 PM
Terry1: It hasn’t gone completely out yet but we’ll see if it gets better. I’m thinking the draw is a little loose. Pepper on mine is fading now revealing more of the sweetness and earth. I’m liking the flavors.
8:18 PM
StraightUpCigars: I am really liking mine right now. No subtle complexities, but good bold earthy flavor.
8:19 PM
Terry1: Burn went a little wonky. I’m about halfway now. Seems to be smoking rather fast. And I’m starting to feel the nicotine. Agree with the bold flavors.
8:22 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is still burning pretty straight, ash has been dropping pretty fast though
8:22 PM
Terry1: Band popped off cleanly. The draw has tightened up now and it’s smoking better. Got a little cherry sweetness in the last couple of puffs. Nice, I hope it lasts.
8:24 PM
Terry1: Yeah my ash is flakey and has flowered a bit. I’m starting to look like I have a sever case of dandruff with the black shirt I’m wearing.
8:25 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol! I’ve got a white wifebeater so it blends right in
8:29 PM
StraightUpCigars: Hmmm, think I’m getting some of that sour cherry sweetness. Good flavor so far.
8:33 PM
Terry1: Into the final third, pepper has really faded. Now it’s mostly that sweet earthy note. Nicotine is starting to get to me. I’ll probably have trouble standing up after this cigar.
8:34 PM
Terry1: I usually don’t drink tequila with a cigar but it seems to be working with the earthy notes of this cigar.
8:35 PM
StraightUpCigars: That would be a good complement to this one, I think. Would play on the hints of sweetness.
8:40 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine just keeps getting richer. Dark coffee flavor now.
8:42 PM
Terry1: Same here. My head is spinning now but I keep puffing. I’m liking the flavors.
8:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: I’m starting to feel the effects too. This one definitely has some strength. Very full bodied flavor too.
8:46 PM
Terry1: I’m about done. Reached the nub and it’s getting hot. Great cigar. Darren missed out on a good one tonight.
8:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, he sure did. I’m just a little behind you with .5 in smokeable left. Ratings coming.
8:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: So these are a little pricey and one-dimensional, but I really enjoyed the flavor and overall smoking experience. Definitely recommend people to give this one a try, I liked it.
8:50 PM
Terry1: I was thinking the same as you on the score. Great flavors but it did get a little strong for me. The loose draw at the beginning caused a bit of a problem. Luckily it didn’t last. I would recommend trying it.
