Romeo Y Julieta Edicion Limitada – Cigar Review

This weeks group review is of the RYJ Edicion Limitada.  This is a really nice looking cigar once you remove it from the aluminum tubo.  The wrapper has few veins and has a nice light brown color.  There is not a lot of smell from it, which could indicate extensive aging.  Once we lit up e were very pleased with the pleasant flavor profile.  Cedar and nuts with some spice on the finish.  It surprised us with some subtle complexities towards the end.  Very good construction, which is to be expected from a Romeo Y Julieta.  Expensive cigars have an uphill battle when it comes to our rating system.  This one scored well due to excellent flavor and construction.  This is a super premium worth trying!

IamDarren: Got the cigar out. Very interesting smell to the wrapper and foot. I can only describe it has fruity.
7:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine doesn’t have much of a smell at all. Draw is on the loose side.
7:47 PM
Terry1: Nice looking cigar and packaging. Although the torpedo tubo I kept looks like a vibrator.
7:47 PM
7:48 PM
IamDarren: my draw is a little tight. same fruity note on the cold draw.
7:49 PM
Terry1: Clipped mine. I’m smoking the torpedo and the draw is snug. My cold draw is interesting. It’s like a dusty pecan note.
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: I’m gonna light er up.
7:50 PM
IamDarren: bring on the flame!
7:53 PM
Terry1: Lots of flavors to begin with. I’m getting a nice sweetness upfront, cedar and nut notes. I like how it’s starting.
7:54 PM
IamDarren: this cigar is pretty tasty, not too strong. i am getting a nutty flavor but its sweet, kinda like penut or pecan butter.
7:54 PM
IamDarren: fairly creamy with just a hint of spice.
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: Pretty much the same here cedary and nutty. Nice sweet finish with a hint of spice. Pretty darn tasty!
7:56 PM
IamDarren: im also getting a hint of roasted coffee, just enough to give it some depth.
7:58 PM
IamDarren: spice is slowing increasing in the retrohale.
7:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: So what exactly is the name of this cigar?
8:01 PM
Terry1: Is there more than one Edicion Limitada?
8:02 PM
StraightUpCigars: Oh, I guess not. My tubo had something else on it but I think that’s the vitola
8:02 PM
IamDarren: Matt, you do know you are supposed to take it out of the tube to smoke it
8:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: What?!?! I thought mine had hints of aluminum flavor.
8:03 PM
IamDarren: lots of metallic notes
8:06 PM
IamDarren: going into the second third now, still medium bodied but the strength is slowly increasing. The spice is a little stronger now.
8:07 PM
IamDarren: tapped the ash off in the tray and the burn is going nicely
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think I’d still consider mine mild bodied at this point but there is a lot more pepper creeping in.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: maybe the draw is having something to do with the flavor.
8:09 PM
StraightUpCigars: Could very well be.
8:10 PM
Terry1: Mine is burning well. My flavors have lightened up too. Getting a little pepper burn but otherwise about the same.
8:11 PM
IamDarren: I haven’t ate yet so maybe my palate is being more sensative, plus I have only had time for a couple cigars a week here lately.
8:12 PM
StraightUpCigars: How ironic… a farmer that doesn’t eat.
8:14 PM
IamDarren: lately supper has been between 8:00 and 9:00, i have just gotten used to it.
8:16 PM
Terry1: At about the halfway point, the pepper has increased significantly overwhelming everything else. That’s about all I can taste now. The pepper came quick. Almost within a few puffs.
8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars: Well, this cigar is not burning too fast, so you may even miss that time!
8:17 PM
IamDarren: starting to pick up some cinnamon spice now, im liking it. Just a hint of pepper.
8:19 PM
Terry1: Lots of announcements are popping up for IPCPR. Looks like some interesting cigars coming out.
8:19 PM
IamDarren: Just noticed that CI is selling a new RYJ called Havoc. Looks very unique.
8:19 PM
IamDarren: cigarbid has the Magnum 6×60….just what i wanted to try….
8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars: I know you like the big ones!
8:21 PM
IamDarren: i need to learn how to roll cigars. I could buy up the 6x60s, unroll them, and then make a whole buch of robustos. Save a ton of money.
8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: I did a burn correction to mine, it is smoking a lot better now. Also noticed an increase to medium body. A tangy earth flavor with lots of pepper and spice on the finish.
8:21 PM
Terry1: You could just buy a bunch of churchills and cut them in half.
8:23 PM
IamDarren: i like a 5 or 6 inch cigar just fine i just can’t stand the 60 ring gauges. I went on a rant on the forum cause every since email i get is for a deal of 60 ring gauge cigars. Come on people!!!
8:23 PM
Terry1: I’m getting that earthy note too. Agree with the pepper and spice. Strength is creeping up. Wow my band just fell off by itself. I can’t remember that happening before. Second popped off with a little tug.
8:24 PM
IamDarren: i trying to smoke slwoly and mine has not gotten much stronger, still a decent amount of spice but right in the medium range.
8:25 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’
8:25 PM
StraightUpCigars: s weird the band fell right off! Mine came off easy too.
8:28 PM
IamDarren: same here, didn’t even have to pull. Thats how a band should be.
8:29 PM
IamDarren: still have sweet cedar and nuts up front with cinnamon spice coming in on the finish. Still just a hint of roased coffee.
8:31 PM
StraightUpCigars: off to kill a spider
8:31 PM
Terry1: Duty calls!
8:31 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nevermind, that’s the fastest spider I have ever seen!
8:32 PM
IamDarren: i actually kinda miss the orb spider that used to come out at night and build huge webs on my porch. When the moths were thick i would catch them and toss them in their webs. Lots of fun to watch.
8:34 PM
StraightUpCigars: I don’t especially care for spiders, I’d just as quick kill them. I do like snakes though.
8:35 PM
Terry1: Getting into the final third. Still getting the cedar, nuts, spice and some earth. Pepper has faded. Mine has been burning well, no corrections needed.
8:36 PM
IamDarren: same here, getting a little heat but still have the same flavors.
8:36 PM
StraightUpCigars: Ditto. Just about to the final third. This is a slow burner!
8:37 PM
IamDarren: i have never stored a tubo before, i wonder if they even need to be in the humi or if the cap seals it well.
8:38 PM
Terry1: I’d keep it in the humi. My guess is they are designed to breath a little.
8:39 PM
StraightUpCigars: Agreed. I had mine in the humi still in the tube.
8:40 PM
Terry1: Looks like the cigar has been fairly consistant across the sizes.
8:41 PM
IamDarren: I have also been wanting to try the Viejo. I think they came out last year.
8:43 PM
IamDarren: some idiot bid 49 for a 5 pack on cbid, that is what the boxes are going for…
8:43 PM
StraightUpCigars: Their auctions are confusing, maybe he thought it was a box?
8:44 PM
IamDarren: could be, the only pick they have shows the box
8:45 PM
IamDarren: haven’t had any luck finding a deal on the Ovals…. everybody want them and is willing to pay 7 or 8 bucks a stick to get em.
8:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: yep, last time you linked me a deal, I thought holy crap, buy it! But it was only a fiver not a box.
8:46 PM
IamDarren: i was hoping something would come up of the 4th and no one would be around to bid… no such luck.
8:49 PM
IamDarren: mine is almost to the nub. still decent flavor, although it is getting a little dry but that is expected. All in all a pretty good smoke.
8:50 PM
Terry1: It may be the heat talking but I’m really feeling this cigar as I approach the end.
8:51 PM
StraightUpCigars: I like mine. The pepper and spice is stronger, but completely manageable. Medium-full body smoke. I like this one!
8:52 PM
Terry1: Agreed. I liked this one too. Had some complexity I didn’t expect. Flavors were enjoyable to the end.
8:56 PM
StraightUpCigars: I haven’t had a bad experience with an RYJ yet. They haven’t ever knocked my socks off, but are always reliable.
8:57 PM
Terry1: I’m done. Ready to score?
8:58 PM
IamDarren: yep, lets do it
9:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: Pretty good for a “super premium” here at SUC.
9:03 PM
IamDarren: Yep, I agree RYJ always delivers a good smoking experience.
9:03 PM
Terry1: Agree. RyJ comes through again.
9:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: Thanks for the good smoke Terry!
