Perdomo Tierra Del Sol Maduro – Cigar Review

Up for review is the Tierra Del Sol Maduro cigar by Perdomo.  Yes, we know, Perdomo has discontinued this cigar.  You never know, maybe they’ll bring it back.  It has a veiny and mottled wrapper leaf with an earthy smell.  The draw is a little loose after cutting.  When we light it up we taste sweet, creamy maduro flavor.  There’s some earth and a hint of pepper.  As we continue to smoke it gets richer and a coffee flavor creeps in.  Overall we loved the flavor of this cigar and the price cannot be beat!  If this one is brought back we’ll be buying more, we highly recommend it.

StraightUpCigars: My Tierra Del Sol has a veiny and mottled wrapper leaf. Pungent earthy smell. Draw is good, even after a somewhat shallow cut on this long Churchill vitola.
7:44 PM
Terry1: My wrapper has that barnyard smell to it. Smells aged. Draw is a bit loose. I’m ready to try this one. Lighting up.
7:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has started out very earthy with just faint hints of cream and pepper in there.
7:52 PM
Terry1: Mine has started earthy too. I’m getting a lot of pepper and a creamy sweetness in the first few puffs. Draw is good. Getting plenty of smoke. I’m liking how it’s starting.
7:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Perdomo cigar. I guess this is the maduro version given how it tastes, but it’s not too dark and is hard to tell. Thoughts? You remember who sent this out?
7:56 PM
Terry1: I’ve never had one of these. Seen them in the catalogues. My guess it’s the maduro version. It’s smoking like a Perdomo, meaning good draw and even burn. My notes say you sent this one out.
7:57 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol, must have been a while ago.
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: Must have been a Cbid special, but it’s not letting me view my past orders right now.
8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: That earth flavor has balanced out nicely with sweet cream and some pepper. Really tasty mild smoke right now.
8:05 PM
Terry1: I found the webpage on CI’s website. It looks like it is out of stock and it comes with a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper. I get a lot of earthy notes from that wrapper. This cigar has the earth. About an inch in and the pepper has mellowed and the cigar is getting creamier with more sweetness. Nice mellow smoke right now. My notes say you sent this to me in 2013. Kind of surprised a bundled cigar has aged this well. Nice easy smoke.
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: Wow, 4 years of age. That’s pretty wild. So far I’d say it was worth it!
8:10 PM
Terry1: Agree, this first third is pretty good. I may regret not getting a bundle before they sold out of them.
8:13 PM
StraightUpCigars: That was a devastating loss to the Preds, you get to watch any more games?
8:13 PM
Terry1: I’m disappointed the Blues lost. I watched the last seven games and was really getting into the team. Nashville was tough. I knew hockey was a rough game but that series was brutal.
8:15 PM
Terry1: I’m hoping the Blues games are picked up in my area. I’d like to follow the team during next season.
8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars: Glad you enjoyed it! Nashville was surprisingly good, I’m rooting for them to win. That would be some kind of validation of us losing to them. In order to watch games I subscribe to NHL.TV. It’s a little spendy at $100/year, but we don’t have cable so it’s my only option.
8:18 PM
Terry1: I’ll have to look into that. That price is about a third of what NFL ticket is.
8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars: Really? That makes me feel a lot better about spending it! Keep in mind that all national broadcasts are blocked (NBC and NBCSN). Next year there’ll be a new team not too terribly far from you, the Vegas Golden Knights.
8:20 PM
Terry1: My burn is getting lop sided. I’m going to correct it. Plenty of smoke. Flavors haven’t changed, Still earthy with some creamy sweetness.
8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’s funny, I just finished a burn correction on mine. Same flavors here too, but I’m fine with that b/c it’s tasty.
8:22 PM
Terry1: My wife was big into hockey when we met. At that time it was the Salt Lake Golden Eagles and she told me they were affiliated with the Blues. I thought that was an interesting connection.
8:23 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’s interesting. I’ve heard minor league games are a total riot.
8:24 PM
Terry1: We now have the Utah Grizzlies. I’ll have to see them in person and find out.
8:26 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice. Susie was not into hockey until we went and saw some games in person. Once you see the size and speed of the players it’s funner to watch on TV. Plus there’s the behind-the-play antics.
8:28 PM
Terry1: That was my observation watching the Blues. Most of the scores I didn’t even see them made live. I had to watch the slow motion replay to figure out what the hell happened. It gets crazy around the goal.
8:30 PM
StraightUpCigars: I can’t believe they’re able to tip shots, it’s nuts.
8:32 PM
Terry1: I can’t believe a goalie can catch the puck on a close shot. Fast reflexes.
8:34 PM
Terry1: Starting to get a coffee flavor to go with the earth. The sweetness has faded somewhat. Band came off cleanly.
8:36 PM
Terry1: Starting to feel a hint of nicotine. Doesn’t surprise me. I always get buzzed from Perdomo cigars. He doesn’t know how to make a mild smoke.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: I’m getting a richer profile as well, although it’s still so mild tasting and smokable. Great smoke production, like you noted. No complaints other than the correction, which is to be expected on a churchill.
8:38 PM
Terry1: I’m going to make another correction. It looks like I’ve got a slight tunnel on the side of the cigar making it burn faster.
8:40 PM
StraightUpCigars: It’s really unfortunate these are sold out.
8:41 PM
Terry1: Agree. If these come back into stock I’ll be buying a bundle.
8:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: This video doesn’t do the emotion justice, but this was from round 2 last year. Blew out the Stars at home and made it apparent we were going to round 3. Reaves blew them a kiss good night after wrecking a dude!

8:47 PM
Terry1: That’s funny. There is a fight going on live right now. The refs are letting them go at it. Anaheim just scored on a power play.
8:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice, you got a TV in there?!?!
8:48 PM
Terry1: Of course! Can’t be a mancave without a tv.
8:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’s awesome.
8:50 PM
Terry1: Yeah it’s nice. I can be out here watching sports and smoking cigars while my wife watches Dancing with the Stars or some other nonsense.
8:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol, super jealous.
8:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is coming to an end over here. I think I’ve been speed smoking, but I’ve had a hard time setting this one down.
8:57 PM
Terry1: I’m done too. The wrapper split at the head and it’s letting too much air in. No change in flavors in the final third but that’s okay it was tasty.
8:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: I loved this cigar. Great, consistent flavor profile. It’s OK that it wasn’t complex in this case. Another Perdomo that delivers in the value category, no surprise there. Highly recommended!
9:00 PM
Terry1: Good choice. I’m surprised how good this cigar was. Looks like it was selling for about $3 a stick, well worth it. Perdomo does it again offering a great tasting cigar.
