The Oscuro is one cigar in a three cigar series from perdomo. This is the red label Oscuro, with the others being the green label “Golf” and the white label Sun Grown.
This sample had 1 large vein running all the way down the oscuro wrapper.
It felt slightly spongy and did have a hard spot near the middle of the cigar.
The wrapper smells very peppery while the foot has a very earthy smell to it.
I chose to punch it, and I am pleased that I did. The pre-light draw was pretty much perfect.
The first third was very earthy and buttery with a spicy finish. Definitely not as peppery as I would have expected considering this is an oscuro wrapperd cigar. The burn did not get off to a great start, but quickly corrected itself.
The second third was still only medium bodied… another surprise. The flavor was a very buttery mocha with a sweet and spicy finish. Really tastes good. It has a very dark gray ash.
In the final third it finally increased to the full bodied beast that I expected all along. Very rich coffe and earth flavor with a spicy, peppery, and sweet finish. I did have to correct the burn when it was getting down tot he nub.
This was not what I would have expected! The typical oscuro wrapped cigar is full bodied, but the Perdomo Reserve Oscuro remained medium bodied until the final third. It was not very complex in flavor (it maintained the earthy spice throughout the cigar), but the gradual transitions in strength were interesting. This cigar has a little bit for everyone… I would definitely give it a try if I were you!
