Construction on this stick is just simply amazing! The Sun Grown Habano is very dark and has a beautiful tint of red with lots of sheen. You can really tell that this stick was made by the hands of one of the finest rollers Oliva has. Who the heck puts a quadruple cap on a cigar……really!! The diadema shape is really just amazing. After a cut with the trusty Xikar (still leaving 2 of the 4 caps!) the draw is a perfect medium. That is something I would expect from a robusto, but a 7 inch cigar…..with a tapered foot. Wow. The aroma from the wrapper has a little earth and some spice. Prelight draw also adds some sweetness. Ok, now I’m drooling, lets get her toasted already!
With the foot only being about ¼ inch in diameter it only took about five seconds to light this one. Initial flavors are earth and spice. Wait, now I’m picking up a nice creamy caramel like sweetness….very nice. Ok wait, now I’m getting some leather and possibly a little coffee. This cigar is so complex but at the same time extremely mellow. All of the previously mentioned flavors are all mixing together to create an experience that I can’t even describe. After about 45 minutes I am approaching the center of the cigar and each puff is just as good (if not better) than the last. It’s right in the medium strength range with a ton of smooth creamy flavors. The finish is also great. It lingers for quite awhile and not once have I gotten any bitterness.
I think this would be described as the lift-off point to cigar heaven. I thought it was going to continue on just like the first half but then it kicked into high gear. Out of nowhere the spice picked up and started to make my tongue numb. Not only that, but the flavors also took it up a notch. Now the coffee is the dominant force followed by milk chocolate. At about the 1/3 mark it started to go out on me so I gave it a little squeeze here and there and it opened right up and continued on its way. Nearing the nub the Serie V has settled back down into the caramel and spice that were the dominant flavors in the first half. I am going to smoke this one till it scalds my fingers! Even now the burn is cool. I never had any problems with the ash either. It held firm and I had to tap it off three times.
This is the best Oliva cigar I have ever had, and is probably in my top 5 of all time. Need I say more? Pay the extra few bucks and get one of these pronto. I saved this one for a very special occasion and it did not let me down! What special occasion you say?? Check out the forum to find out.
