The Kristoff GC Signature is a blend that began as the Vengeance. We here at Straight Up Cigars really enjoyed the Vengeance and you can read Darren’s review here. http://straightupcigars.com/vengeance-maduro-ligero-cigar-review/ I recently met Glen Case at the 2012 Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival and was told by Glen the Vengeance just wasn’t a big seller. It was his favorite blend so he discontinued the Vengeance and brought the blend under the Kristoff umbrella renaming it the GC Signature.
The cigar consists of a rustic looking Brazilian maduro wrapper, Honduran binder and Honduran, Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers. The GC Signature features a pigtail cap and a closed foot. As you can see in the picture, the cigars are packaged without cellophane and surrounded in a bed a tobacco. Clipping the cap I get an easy draw with notes of cherry, sweetness and chocolate. Tastes like a desert.
First third: There is plenty of smoke right from the start. The flavors are intense, smooth and delicious. I’m getting an intense caramel sweetness along with a cedar note, some earthiness, cocoa and a slight coffee bitterness on the finish. The room is filled with a very pleasant sweet tobacco aroma, absolutely wonderful.
Second third: The cigar is still smoking very well, draw is perfect, burn line is even and the ash is holding. The flavors remain about the same with the addition of a slight pepper heat in the retrohale. The sweetness has changed to more of a cherry note.
Last third: The final third brings more of the same great smooth flavors and the strength builds to around medium-full.
Final thoughts: With great construction and smooth intense flavors, the GC Signature is exactly what I look for in a cigar. As a comparison I smoked a Vengeance from a box I purchased in 2010. It could be the difference in age but I think the GC Signature is a slightly better cigar. The Vengeance didn’t seem as sweet and I got more of the bitter coffee notes throughout the cigar. I’ve purchased boxes of both the Vengeance and the GC Signature and it continues to be one of my favorite cigars. I encourage you to try one.
