Jesus Fuego Corojo Oscuro – Cigar Review

This weeks group cigar review is of the Jesus Fuego Corojo Oscuro.  The cigar has a nice looking wrapper with a hay-like smell.  Once cut, the cigar has a nice draw.  After lighting up, the cigar tasted very sweet with some earth and coffee flavor.  Later on, a pepper and spice flavor dominated.  The construction was perfect on all three smokes.  Overall, we loved the sweet flavor, then transition to spicy pepper.  It tasted downright delicious and kept us guessing what the next puff would taste like.  These are an extremely good value with prices as low as $2/ea.  We highly recommend it!

StraightUpCigars: The Jesus Fuego Corojo Oscuro has a nice hay smell to the wrapper. Luckily I did a shallow cut b/c the draw is pretty loose.
7:44 PM
IamDarren: good draw on mine, getting that same Hay or freshly baled alfalfa from the cold draw along with a hint of chocolate.
7:45 PM
Terry1: The J Fuego has a nice looking wrapper with a barnyard aroma, could be hay. Mine is drawing fine. I did get that chocolate hint too. Should we set fire to it?
7:46 PM
IamDarren: im ready, lets get er going
7:46 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lightin up
7:47 PM
IamDarren: wow, lots of pepper on mine to start. Really making to tongue tingle.
7:48 PM
IamDarren: also getting a bright sweetness with it, like citrus maybe
7:49 PM
Terry1: I’m getting more of a sweetness with a hint of pepper, maybe some black coffee on the finish.
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has also started off incredibly sweet – a brown sugar flavor. Some earth and coffee balancing it out.
7:51 PM
IamDarren: must have squeezed an extra corojo leaf in my blend. However, its started to mellow a little. Getting more sweetness coming through now. Also picking up a charred oak flavor on the finish.
7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is so sweet, I don’t recall having one quite this sweet recently.
7:56 PM
IamDarren: Pepper just came back, and burnt my nostrils when i retrohaled. I like it but its on the verge of drowning out the other flavors at times.
8:00 PM
Terry1: I’m getting a lot of sweetness, very little pepper. I’m liking it but a little zip would be nice. This is a $2 cigar, sold in bundles. I wonder how consistent the factory is with the blend. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were differences between batches.
8:01 PM
IamDarren: ok, put it down to rest for min. and flavors have already improved. Still plenty of pepper but it picked up more sweetness and creaminess. Very earthy core with some oak on the finish.
8:02 PM
StraightUpCigars: I am really liking this one. Like an overly sweetned cup of coffee.
8:02 PM
IamDarren: when you consider the price point this one is delivering nice blend of bold flavor. I have bought a lot of other 2 buck sticks that haven’t delivered this much flavor.
8:03 PM
Terry1: I think you’re right, Darren. This cigar benefits when smoked slowly. I’ve noticed if I pick up the pace, the black coffee tastes more charred or burnt.
8:04 PM
IamDarren: some cigars just require a little patience
8:05 PM
StraightUpCigars: I don’t have any
8:05 PM
IamDarren: lol, lucky you got the milder one then
8:05 PM
IamDarren: my nose was almost to start running there for a min.
8:06 PM
StraightUpCigars: No kidding. This thing really is mild and so smokable. Good find Terry.
8:07 PM
Terry1: Mine is more like Matt’s. Mild and sweet. Burn is doing great. I’m liking it. More my speed.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: didn’t we smoke the Origen? That is another one of his new blends.
8:11 PM
IamDarren: Just crossed the halfway mark and mine is mellowed out perfectly. Creamy and sweet with a hint of corojo spice in the mix now. Still getting a bit of oak on the finish.
8:11 PM
StraightUpCigars: I don’t think I’ve had the Origen. Did you guys smoke that one?
8:13 PM
Terry1: I’ve smoked one of those five stick soft packs but I don’t think we’ve reviewed it. As I remember is was very earthy.
8:13 PM
IamDarren: maybe i was just gifted one… I could have sworn i remember that band.
8:15 PM
IamDarren: huh, don’t know what just happened but i got a hint of something nasty on that last draw… might be tar but im just entering the last third.
8:18 PM
Terry1: I’m into the last third and, for me, the pepper has gotten noticeably stronger. There’s a spice that’s mixed with the sweetness that I’m really liking.
8:19 PM
StraightUpCigars: I am just now getting my first hints of pepper. I like it.
8:20 PM
IamDarren: funky flavor just disappeared after a couple more draws, glad it didn’t last long.
8:21 PM
IamDarren: still getting pleny of pepper, starting to get the hiccups
8:23 PM
IamDarren: i think the last inch is going to be a pepper bomb again… making the tongue tingle already.
8:23 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, lots of pepper on mine now too.
8:24 PM
Terry1: I’m getting more pepper. The strength is building a little. Still a medium for me.
8:27 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yep, this is reaching hiccup levels for me too.
8:30 PM
StraightUpCigars: Getting some tar buildup, but it’s come full circle from where it started. Really liked this one.
8:32 PM
Terry1: I’m liking the mix between sweetness and pepper. My tongue is tingling now. I’ve had a few J Fuego blends and this one is my favorite. Hard to believe the price. Great value.
8:33 PM
IamDarren: yep, just about to finish up and it is ending where it began. I do like the transitions. It started bold, mellowed out, and then built back up again.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s become bitter, but I won’t hold that against it since it’s down to the nub.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: Maybe we need a consistency category since Darren’s was so much different than ours.
8:38 PM
IamDarren: yep, mine is finished. going to head inside
8:38 PM
Terry1: I’m done. Mine tasted great to the nub. No bitterness on mine.
8:39 PM
IamDarren: when they make a cigar for 2 bucks (actually they probably make it for 1 and then everyone else gets a cut… but to make it that cheap they have to cut a few corners. Might just be an issue with aging the corojo or packing the filler the same each time. Could be a lot of things.
8:40 PM
Terry1: That’s why I like all three of us reviewing the cigar. It points out any differences between the samples whether it’s construction of in this case flavors.
8:42 PM
IamDarren: holy smokes! You guys really did like it a lot
8:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: Overall, this mild cigar had a ton of delicious sweet flavor and really delivered. Can’t go wrong with this one.
8:42 PM
Terry1: I’m ready to buy a bundle. I thought it was a great cigar.
8:43 PM
StraightUpCigars: I sure did. Incredible value stick.
8:44 PM
IamDarren: Yep, thanks for finding this one!
8:45 PM
Terry1: My pleasure. Glad everyone liked it.
8:45 PM
IamDarren: the perfect yard gar, bold flavor without being too strong and can’t beat the price point.
