J. Fuego The Judge – Cigar Review

J Fuego The Judge Cigar 2
The J. Fuego The Judge we’re reviewing are a Famous Smoke Shop exclusive cigar.  This cigar has a sweet smell and the draw, after cutting, is fair.  Once lit up, it’s full bodied right off the bat.  The flavor is earth, oak, and pepper with a faint sweetness.  That sweetness and the pepper fade out and leave just earthiness and oak.  Both smokes had burn issues and one had a tight draw.  Overall, the flavor was one-dimensional at times and the minor construction issues were annoying.  Still, these are worth a try.

J Fuego The Judge Cigar 3
7:58 PM
Terry1: The Judge by J Fuego has a sweet tobacco smell to the wrapper and the cold draw has the same sweetness with some earth. Draw is about perfect. Ready to light up
7:59 PM
Terry1: Yeah it’s decent tonight here too.
8:00 PM
IamDarren: I like the band, kinda different and bold. Getting a sweet earthy note on the cold draw, maybe oak.
8:01 PM
IamDarren: Not too often that we both get nice weather for the review
8:03 PM
IamDarren: nice easy draw too
8:03 PM
IamDarren: are we ready to light?
8:04 PM
Terry1: Yes ready to light. I seem to not be in synch with you tonight
8:05 PM
Terry1: I guess I’m used to Matt taking the lead.
8:05 PM
IamDarren: lol, its ok. I’m just glad I finally get the chance to sit down and enjoy a cigar. Been so crazy busy lately.
8:05 PM
IamDarren: Lighting up now.
8:07 PM
Terry1: Took some effort to get The Judge evenly lit. Once lit the cigar is producing plenty of smoke. First few puffs have a light honey like sweetness and a pleasant pepper zing. There’s a slight vegetal note on the finish. Good start.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: Stronger than I thought it would be based on the cold draw. Decent amount of pepper. Little bit of sweetness but definitely being overpowered by the earth and pepper flavor at the moment.
8:09 PM
IamDarren: very easy draw with lots of smoke production.
8:12 PM
Terry1: The pepper and earth notes are getting stronger for me to pushing the sweetness into the background. Burn is a little lopsided but keeping up.
8:12 PM
IamDarren: Burning well, definitely a full bodied stick in the first third. Lots of rich earth, pepper and some charred oak. Just a pinch of sweetness on mine which is helping to balance it.
8:16 PM
IamDarren: Looks like this one a famous exclusive. Retails for around 5 bucks.
8:18 PM
IamDarren: got a 1 inch ash going and it seems to be holding up well.
8:19 PM
Terry1: So far so good. Pepper is fading. Sweetness is coming back. I’ve got an inch of ash too. Burn evened out. Really enjoying the cigar at the moment.
8:22 PM
Terry1: I chickened out and tapped the ash off.
8:23 PM
IamDarren: lol, me too right after I wrote the post
8:24 PM
IamDarren: going into the second third the pepper is fading fast. Its not being replaced by anything yet. Still mostly just an earth/oak flavor. Loosing some complexity.
8:25 PM
Terry1: Band peeled off easily. I can’t decide if I like the band or not. It looks like a movie poster which is cool but does it fit on a cigar?
8:28 PM
Terry1: I’m into the middle third and like you I’m getting the oak and earth. But I’m also still getting a mild sweetness and even a minty note once in a while.
8:30 PM
IamDarren: I think with the new law that this type of cigar (online exclusives) will probably be the first to go. Probably only the big brands will be able to push new cigars to the market.
8:33 PM
IamDarren: I’m just crossing the halfway mark and I agree, I’m starting to get a pinch more sweetness that is helping balance the flavor. Starting to enjoy it more.
8:33 PM
Terry1: Yeah I’m thinking the industry as we know it will become vastly different. I don’t think anyone will notice this year because of the push to get new cigars out before the deadline but I imagine next year will be a wasteland for new cigar releases.
8:35 PM
IamDarren: Probably take a year or two for them to figure out the system. I just hope that they don’t increase prices too much or they will loose a big customer base.
8:35 PM
IamDarren: Do you know what the increase in tax is going to be?
8:36 PM
Terry1: I haven’t heard. Any increase will be too much.
8:38 PM
IamDarren: I was hoping it wouldn’t affect current cigar production much. If it only changes how new cigars are released it may slow down new cigar releases but at least we can still buy cigars at a fair price
8:39 PM
IamDarren: starting to get a new spice note that is mixing with the sweetness.
8:40 PM
Terry1: I think your comment about the big brands continuing will likely be our reality. Easier to spread the cost of approval over a million cigars than say a small 10,000 cigar release. Small batch cigars will get expensive.
8:42 PM
Terry1: I’m noticing the sweetness fades in and out. When you get it the cigar tastes really nice. When it leaves the earth and oak dominate and it doesn’t taste as good. I haven’t figured out if its the speed I’m smoking that is causing the sweetness to change but I am trying to smoke slower.
8:50 PM
Terry1: Nearing the end of the middle third. Flavors are consistent. The draw is starting to tighten up. I’m hoping it doesn’t get much worse.
8:51 PM
IamDarren: same here, mine has lost the sweetness going into the last third. Getting dry.
8:55 PM
Terry1: I’m still getting a mild sweetness but the tighter draw is making it tougher to smoke. Burn is still straight.
8:56 PM
IamDarren: after the halfway mark mine started burning lopsided. Haven’t corrected it yet because it hasn’t gotten any worse.
8:59 PM
IamDarren: sweetness is back again, lots of transitions in this stick.
9:02 PM
Terry1: Starting to feel a little bit of strength. Starting to burn hotter in the last inch maybe from the tighter draw.
9:11 PM
IamDarren: grr. the laptop decided to update without asking me, Thanks windows 10.
9:11 PM
Terry1: Boy I hate that!
9:11 PM
IamDarren: I’m almost finished. Starting to heat up in the last inch. Flavor is still pretty much the same.
9:12 PM
Terry1: Same here. It’s getting hot. Ready to rate.
9:14 PM
IamDarren: Decent stick but flavor was very one dimensional at times. Burn wasn’t the best on my stick either.
9:15 PM
Terry1: Decent cigar with some good flavors and a few minor transitions. The tight draw was bothersome but it still burned well for me. I’d recommend trying one.
