Gurkha Viper – Cigar Review

Gurkha Viper Cigar 2

Up for review is the Gurkha Viper.  This cigar is actually manufactured by PDR, so we’re looking forward to seeing if it’s a hidden gem.  This box-pressed cigar has a good draw after cutting.   Once lit up, it starts off bold with earth, a faint sweetness and a strong pepper finish.  It mellows out and a sweet creamy flavor dominates.  Towards the end, it ramps back up and finished like it started.  Overall, this wasn’t a complex cigar, but we thought it was a tasty smoke.  The thing we like most about it is the price, these are cheap!  We recommend the Viper.

Gurkha Viper Cigar 3
7:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: Great pungent tobacco smell. Good box press shape and easy draw after a shallow cut.
7:39 PM
IamDarren: mine has a rectangle press. Wrapper looks nice and smooth with very few veins. Its a litle bit squishy in the center.
7:39 PM
IamDarren: interesting earthy spice combo on the cold draw
7:40 PM
Terry1: Nice barnyard sell to the wrapper. Draw is about right with a dark tobacco flavor. Ready to light up.
7:40 PM
IamDarren: lighting up
7:41 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lighting!
7:42 PM
IamDarren: super easy draw, lots of smoke
7:42 PM
IamDarren: earth, nuts, and a little pepper on the finish
7:44 PM
Terry1: Agree, lots of smoke and easy draw. Pepper note is strong on mine. I’m also getting a mild sweetness and the earthy note.
7:44 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is mainly earthy with a tangy and super peppery finish.
7:45 PM
IamDarren: seems to be burning quite fast, especially when i take a draw
7:46 PM
StraightUpCigars: Same here, burning like a lit fuse, but I love the smoke production.
7:49 PM
IamDarren: pepper has already faded out on my stick. Slightly more sweet. Getting more of a salted peanut flavor now. Little bit tangy but more creamy and smooth than before.
7:50 PM
Terry1: Tangy is a good descriptor. An inch in and the pepper is letting up it’s assault. Still getting the earth and a black coffee note now.
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is mellowing too. Getting some creamy flavor. Good stick so far.
7:55 PM
IamDarren: very creamy, mellow stick right now. Tasty but lacking some complexity
7:56 PM
Terry1: With the pepper all but gone the other flavors are standing out. Got the nuts mentioned, more sweetness and creamy. I’m liking it.
7:57 PM
IamDarren: was going to pull up the price and description but im having trouble loading the Ci and Cigar.com websites. Some others pull up fine. Thats kinda odd.
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: Your wife added you to their blocked lists, like for gamblers.
8:01 PM
Terry1: I’m thinking the Viper has been discontinued. They still show up on Cigarbid in limited amounts. They go for a couple of bucks.
8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeeah, out of stock on CI
8:03 PM
Terry1: Draw has tightened up. It’s more deliberate now. Burn has been great.
8:05 PM
IamDarren: mine is still burning like a fuse. Lots of smoke but there isn’t a whole lot of flavor.
8:07 PM
Terry1: It is burning fast. We’ll be lucky to get an hour out of this toro. Mine has mellowed but I’m still getting some great flavors. Hasn’t changed since the pepper left. I’m enjoying it so far.
8:09 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yep, mine is past the halfway point already. That tangy flavor is back on the finish and I feel like it will ramp up again.
8:13 PM
IamDarren: I hope so, the middle third of my stick while pleasant and creamy is really lacking flavor and complexity. Some sweetness and subdued spice is about all im getting with the creaminess.
8:14 PM
IamDarren: comes across as salted caramel in the retrohale, which is nice
8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is still slowly and slightly ramping up, but there is a sweet flavor that is really balancing it out. Delicious.
8:21 PM
IamDarren: cigar is starting to pick up a little steam. Pepper is coming back into play and the finish had a bit of char
8:22 PM
Terry1: I’d agree the last third is really nice. Mine has a lot of creamy sweetness.
8:24 PM
IamDarren: about an inch left on mine, and its going to finish where it started. Sweetness has faded but is still there mixing with some earth and pepper.
8:27 PM
Terry1: It may be your salted caramel description but my Viper tastes like one of those salted nut rolls. Salted nuts, creamy nougat and caramel. I’m liking how this one is finishing.
8:29 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is just about finished already. It’s come full circle. The finish really lingers.
8:32 PM
IamDarren: I can rate whenever you guys are ready. I liked the first third and last third.
8:32 PM
Terry1: I’m about done. I can rate now.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: This one has good, straightforward flavor. Love the box press. Love the price.
8:38 PM
IamDarren: wasn’t my favorite but overall a decent cigar that would make a great mid-afternoon stick.
8:38 PM
Terry1: I really liked this cigar. Great value with good flavors and construction. More in my flavor preference. I’d recommend the Gurkha Viper.
8:40 PM
Terry1: I was wrong. We ended up smoking this for a little more than an hour. As fast as it burned I was expecting about 45 minutes. It didn’t get hot thou which is a plus.
