Foundry Chillin’ Moose – Cigar Review

Up for review is the Chillin Moose cigar by Foundry.  This is a very affordable smoke, so we’re hoping we found a gem here.  It has a veiny wrapper leaf and a loose draw after cutting.  After lighting it up we tasted a sweet, cteamy flavor with a mild floral note in the background and some earthiness.  We liked the flavor of the first half a lot.  A dominating bitter flavor took over for the second half and detracted from the rest of the experience.  Overall, these are hard to pass up at about $2 apiece online.  They’re easily worth that price despite the poor ending.  Definitely pick some up and let us know what you think!

StraightUpCigars: Pretty mild smelling and tasting prior to lighting, I’m not getting any specific notes from it. Loose draw after a shallow cut.
7:46 PM
Terry1: The wrapper is veiny. I smell the typical barnyard aroma from the wrapper. The draw is on the loose side but okay. Mild sweetness and walnuts on the cold draw. Ready to light up.

StraightUpCigars: Lighting up
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has started out very earthy with a bread-like flavor. A hint of spice in there.
7:51 PM
Terry1: Initial puffs have a mild sweetness, creamy texture, and some bitterness on the finish. Plenty of smoke.
7:52 PM
StraightUpCigars: Definitely plenty of smoke, real easy to puff on.
7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is getting sweeter, tasting the cream flavor you mentioned now.
7:55 PM
Terry1: I went ahead and popped the band off. It’s not going to take long to burn up to it as big as it is.
7:56 PM
StraightUpCigars: This vitola has exactly the mouth-feel I want in a cigar. I like it.
7:58 PM
Terry1: I’m getting some of the spice you mentioned along with the sweetness and maybe a floral note.
8:02 PM
Terry1: I’m liking the aroma from the cigar but it leaves my mouth dry. These cigars are from Foundry and are about $2.
8:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think that b/c of the loose draw and small vitola (burning hot) there’s a bitterness on the finish that seems to be getting stronger. I hope that backs off.
8:09 PM
StraightUpCigars: Wow, for $2 it’s going to be hard to dislike this one!
8:10 PM
Terry1: This cigar is smoking fast. I think you’re right the bitterness is getting stronger. I’m smoking slower to see if it improves. I like the notes you get from the retrohale, creamy, some sweetness, floral and that bready note.
8:14 PM
Terry1: That bitterness isn’t going away which is too bad because I’m enjoying the aroma but then you are left with a bitter taste in your mouth. The burn has been good.
8:15 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, there are some puffs where I actually like it the bitter flavor, but for the most part it’s unwanted.
8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: It’s just heading downhill, which is a shame. Going to be a mouthwash afterwards cigar.
8:22 PM
Terry1: Cigar is getting too hot, small size plus loose draw. I think the heat is killing the flavors. I’m putting it down. No strength as far as I can tell.
8:22 PM
StraightUpCigars: Agreed. Ratings coming.
8:24 PM
StraightUpCigars: I loved the vitola and enjoyed the flavor of the first half. The second half went downhill and the loose construction was a factor. Still, I’d buy more at $2 apiece and just smoke the first half!
8:27 PM
Terry1: I had the same score as you in my head. Consistent good flavors. Just the bitterness towards the end taints the overall experience. Yeah for a $2 cigar it’s worth picking up and trying. I’ve smoked several of these over the year and enjoy them as a morning smoke with coffee. The coffee helps hide the bitterness.
