Flores Y Rodriguez Maduro Cabinet Selection – Cigar Review

This week’s group cigar review is of the Flores Y Rodriguez Maduro Cabinet Selection.  This cigar has a mottled and dark wrapper with a nice sweet earthy smell to it.  The draw is good after cutting.  Once lit up, it had a bold citrus sweet and earthy flavor.  It is very full bodied and rich.  Later in the cigar it develops a delicious coffee flavor.  Overall, the flavor was amazing and the construction was rock solid.  The best part is, you can find these for under $2 online.  There are one of the best value sticks we’ve had in a while, highly recommended!

IamDarren: Boy does the wrapper smell good on this cigar. Getting that nice Sweet earthy aroma. Very dark mottled wrapper.
7:38 PM
IamDarren: Nice triple cap. Easy draw after clipping. Interesting cold draw. Mix of that sweet earthy note and almonds.
7:39 PM
Terry1: Same here. Some sweetness on the cold draw too. Just the right amount of resistance.
7:39 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s got a nice earthy smell to it and a good draw after cutting.
7:39 PM
IamDarren: Im ready to bring on some Maduro goodness
7:39 PM
Terry1: Let’s light them up!
7:40 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lighting!
7:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: So much smoke production! Sweet and bold earthy flavor with buttery smoke texture. Really tastes good.
7:42 PM
IamDarren: Aw yea. Tons of smoke. Easy draw. Rich maduro and some spice. Hint of roasted nuts that adds a buttery texture. Lovin it!
7:43 PM
Terry1: I can’t add to that. Really nice flavors to start with.
7:44 PM
IamDarren: little pepper, mostly in the retrohale. Maybe its just the perfect ending to the day but im in cigar heaven.
7:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: Hopefully the hauling concrete portion is over with.
7:47 PM
IamDarren: Agreed. I didn’t have to do it but the contractor was willing to take a decent chunk out of the bill if I did it.
7:47 PM
Terry1: Did you knock out the floor?
7:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: My boss did the exact same thing, hauled his own concrete and saved hundreds.
7:49 PM
IamDarren: Basically I had to prep the whole basement (Remove all the lath and plaster, take out a couple walls, etc.) and he knocked almost 10,000 off the bill. I said HELL YES I will do it!
7:49 PM
Terry1: Wow! I’d do it to.
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: Holy cow. Putting in a smoking room?
7:50 PM
IamDarren: LOL. I wish. However, the storage room is the second largest room in the basement…. im thinking I might take about 1/3 of it.
7:51 PM
IamDarren: maybe it just me but im starting to pick up a slight citrus flavor, providing a little acidity. Kinda like it.
7:52 PM
Terry1: Pepper is building on mine. Still has a nice earthy sweetness to it. Burn is behaving. I’m liking it.
7:52 PM
StraightUpCigars: I taste it. Getting more pepper too. Very full bodied.
7:53 PM
IamDarren: flavor is so rich and think, just coats the palate. Now that’s how a cigar should perform. If you smoke one of these and then have to double or triple puff on the next one it just makes me want to give up.
7:55 PM
IamDarren: wish I knew how to blow smoke rings, this would be the perfect cigar to do it.. lol
7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Just dropped that first ash off.
7:56 PM
IamDarren: mine fell off a couple min. ago. Burn is doing great. Might be just a bit fast but no complaints.
7:58 PM
IamDarren: hey Matt, have you heard of the Large Pixel Collider?
7:58 PM
StraightUpCigars: No, what is that?
7:59 PM
IamDarren: http://lpc.pcgamer.com/
[The Large Pixel Collider]
The Large Pixel Collider
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol! That’s too far ahead of its time, can’t even put it up to the test.
8:00 PM
IamDarren: take a guess at the price on that PC?
8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: I bet that’s 30k.
8:01 PM
IamDarren: lol, not quite. They admitted that it was over 10,000
8:02 PM
StraightUpCigars: Considering it’s probably 10x faster than your average 1k computer, that doesn’t seem bad.
8:02 PM
IamDarren: I guess you helped inspire me to create my own side business. Im working with the owner of a local Pawn shop to put up my own display and sell custom built PCs.
8:03 PM
Terry1: How do you have time to do that?
8:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’s awesome! My advice is to open a new Paypal/banking account and use it exclusively for business. It will make taxes so much easier.
8:03 PM
IamDarren: lol, im a night owl.
8:03 PM
IamDarren: good idea Matt
8:04 PM
Terry1: Pepper has mellowed a little. Getting a sweet creamy chocolatey note now and I can taste the citrus you mentioned. Not sure if I’m puffing too much because I’m enjoying the cigar but it does seem to be smoking fast.
8:04 PM
IamDarren: I still have to get things ironed out with the accountant
8:05 PM
StraightUpCigars: Well congrats, your first sale will be a very rewarding and exciting feeling.
8:05 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is too Terry, I’m past the halfway mark. Not far from the final third. Really liking it.
8:05 PM
IamDarren: Also trying to decide if I should try online sales or wait and see if I like selling locally. Part of the sales pitch is the service. I don’t know if I like the idea of mailing them out.
8:06 PM
IamDarren: My cigar has also mellowed. Body is still full but the smoke is sweeter and creamier than before.
8:06 PM
IamDarren: just dropped my second ash at the halfway mark
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: Try Craigslist. Trick is to not respond to people that can’t speak English or seem like qucks, will make your life easier
8:08 PM
IamDarren: yeah, we have another local classified website that I might use first
8:10 PM
StraightUpCigars: I did my first quadcopter photo gig a month ago, used car lot. Was pretty scary but exciting.
8:13 PM
IamDarren: our Agronomist was going to get one to look at fields but he has decided to wait with all the worries about regulation.
8:13 PM
IamDarren: so is that going to be a new side business for you then?
8:14 PM
StraightUpCigars: Meh, there’s no one to regulate it anyways. The corp I work for has real drones and is openly selling the service.
8:15 PM
StraightUpCigars: That was the plan, but in 4 months I’ve only had the 1 sale of the service. I’ll work on it harder when the weather turns (it’s kind of a seasonal thing).
8:17 PM
StraightUpCigars: This thing is really delicious. Very rich smoke with a nice mix of earthy and spicy flavor. Some of that acidic citrus too.
8:18 PM
IamDarren: for sure, and im really starting to feel the nic kick. Just got the hiccups.
8:18 PM
Terry1: Nearing the final third. The earthiness has transitioned on mine to more of a coffee note. Still sweet and creamy. Burn has been good. Band slid off. I’m starting to feel it a little too. Really enjoying this cigar.
8:22 PM
StraightUpCigars: Now that you mention it, I have that coffee flavor as well.
8:22 PM
Terry1: The price for these is ridiculous for this good of a cigar. I got a ten pack on cigarbid for $16. I kept waiting for the price to go up but it never did.
8:24 PM
IamDarren: We were fans of PDR long before they were even sold by CI. Its a little surprising they can keep the price point low, and even more surprising that more people don’t catch on and drive the price up.
8:24 PM
StraightUpCigars: That’s insane. $1.60/cigar. I don’t get it.
8:25 PM
IamDarren: looks like they retail between 4 and 5 bucks a stick
8:25 PM
StraightUpCigars: Even that price is cheap.
8:27 PM
IamDarren: agreed, there are getting to be fewer and fewer great cigars for that price point. That’s why I keep getting those Diesel Unlimiteds. I would put this one in the same category.
8:28 PM
Terry1: Yeah. For the flavor and construction I’m amazed PDR can make it for that price. Smokes better than many other more expensive cigars.
8:28 PM
StraightUpCigars: You’d think they’d lose money at $1.60. Mine just started burnin fingers, it’s in the ash tray now.
8:29 PM
Terry1: Wow you are fast tonight. I still have about an inch left.
8:30 PM
IamDarren: same here, almost done. If they are on cigarbid then they are trying to move product. I will probably snatch up a fiver or two.
8:31 PM
StraightUpCigars: I liked this one
8:32 PM
Terry1: I can rate it when you’re ready. No need to wait for me.
8:33 PM
StraightUpCigars: All righty, I’ll get on that in a sec.
8:35 PM
StraightUpCigars: I did have to do one burn correction, other than that it was perfect.
8:36 PM
IamDarren: same here, did one burn correction going into the last third. nothing major
8:36 PM
StraightUpCigars: Amazing cigar. What a find!
8:36 PM
Terry1: I did two burn corrections after the ash fell off.
8:37 PM
IamDarren: Yep, if that was a fish I would mount it!
8:37 PM
Terry1: I just hope it stays around for awhile. I’d like to get more when I get some more room.
