Dunhill Heritage – Cigar Review

Dunhill Heritage Cigar 2

The Dunhill Heritage cigar pays homage to their rich history. The cigars that we are reviewing are a beautiful box-press shape. The draw is good after cutting. Once lit up, it starts off with oak, leather, nc spice with a mild sweetness. As we continued to smoke that spicy pepper flavor ramped up. Overall, we loved all the flavor this offered in a medium bodied package. The construction was very good too, especially for the box-pressed vitola. They are a bit pricey, but easily worth giving a try.

Dunhill Heritage Cigar 3
7:38 PM
StraightUpCigars: The Dunhill Heritage is a very pungent cigar with a beautiful wrapper leaf. Draw is a bit tight after cutting.
7:40 PM
Terry1: Like the box press. Classic looking band. My draw is about right, some slight resistance. Not much but a tobacco note on the cold draw. Ready to light up.
7:41 PM
IamDarren: very nice smooth shiny wrapper leaf. packed tightly for a box press with a tight draw. Getting a leathery note on the cold draw with a mild spice note.
7:42 PM
IamDarren: ready to light when you guys are
7:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lighting up!
7:44 PM
StraightUpCigars: I’m getting a rich, woody flavor with a carmel sweetness to start
7:45 PM
IamDarren: decent smoke production for the tight draw. Pretty good, bold flavor right off the bat. Im getting oak, leather, spice (hint of pepper) and something sweet. Maybe you are right Matt. Caramel sounds about right.
7:47 PM
Terry1: I’m liking the start of the Dunhill Heritage. About the same flavors, wood, leather, spice and sweetness.
7:47 PM
IamDarren: mine is burning a little quicker on one side by about 1/4 inch
7:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is too, burn line is real wavy, but nothing serious yet.
7:51 PM
IamDarren: Spice seems to be increasing and has overpowered the oak and leather, especially in the retrohale. About a half inch in. Flavor is very good overall.
7:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is getting richer and spicier. Really liking the flavor, there’s plenty of it.
7:53 PM
Terry1: My burn is starting to wander a bit. I agree, pepper is dominating at the moment. There’s a lot going on in the background I just can’t identify anything yet.
7:55 PM
IamDarren: agreed, there is a slightly pungent note along with the spice. Its all mixing together so its hard to pick out individual flavors.
7:56 PM
IamDarren: burn got to an inch and i tapped it in the tray, probably could have held on a little longer
7:59 PM
IamDarren: into the second third now, draw seems to be opening up
7:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: My draw has solved itself too, plenty of smoke at this point.
8:01 PM
Terry1: Spice is easing up. Getting some nice sweetness and tobacco notes. Maybe a black coffee note on the finish. Burn is almost straight. I’m liking this cigar.
8:03 PM
IamDarren: agreed, its got plenty of body and flavor without being overpowering. I hope the last half is as good as the first.
8:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: I hesitate to say this is mellowing, since it’s still full bodied, but I agree it’s taking on a dark coffee flavor.
8:07 PM
IamDarren: so whats the story on this cigar? It appears to be a new blend from an old brand.
8:07 PM
Terry1: I’m liking this cigar more now that the pepper has mellowed. I’m enjoying a sweetness with a slight spice. Just over halfway and I can feel a hint of strength to this cigar.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: mine has mellowed slighly and picked up a more buttery character. Approaching the last third.
8:09 PM
StraightUpCigars: It’s a new blend as an ode to the old. Nice mix of Honduran and Nicaraguan tobaccos in it.
8:10 PM
StraightUpCigars: They are definitely pricey, about $7/ea if you buy a 5-pack.
8:11 PM
IamDarren: ok, i wondered. This had all the trademarks of a premium. thats a bit steep but it is performing well.
8:14 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, the price is prohibitive, but so far it’s been worth it. (these were gifted by General, BTW)
8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars: P.S. we got a bunch of cigars in the mail by Drew Estate. There’s only 2 that we can review – for those you guys got Toros and I got Robustos (remind me of that when I forget on review night You can expect those shortly.
8:16 PM
IamDarren: Sweet! Appears that the manufacturers are still interested in our reviews
8:17 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol, yeah it’s a wonder… we’re hard on some cigars. Boy, when we find one we like it gets praised though.
8:18 PM
Terry1: Got to be honest.
8:19 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think we do better than most, especially when I look up competing reviews on cigars that stink.
8:19 PM
Terry1: Price I think is in the ballpark. The cigar is performing well and I’m enjoying the flavors and the transition. I could see myself buying a fiver.
8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is picking up steam now. Real full bodied flavor with a delicious coffee flavor and lots of pepper / spice.
8:20 PM
IamDarren: I think being honest and reputable is a lot more appealing to BOTLs than biased reviews. I would think the manufacturers would appreciate that as well.
8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: I hope so. Cigars Direct didn’t appreciate it – they never sent us any more after that Thurman review. Oh well, that thing was a dog.
8:21 PM
IamDarren: im just into the last third and i can detect a hint of coffee but its not nearly as much as yours. Very buttery and sweet with a hint of earth, spice and pepper.
8:22 PM
Terry1: I’ve noticed the same thing. Sometimes I wonder if they smoked the same cigar. We have three different palates reviewing in real time. I think it gives a good idea of what the experience could be, good or bad, to the reader.
8:22 PM
IamDarren: Out of the whole lineup of sticks they could have sent us they chose that one…. they should start with the good stuff
8:23 PM
IamDarren: i bet they were having trouble selling them so they tried a little PR. didn’t work
8:24 PM
StraightUpCigars: You’re right Terry, we’ve got a huge one-up on the competition. Some of the sites crank out reviews daily, but it’s always just 1 stick smoked which has less credence.
8:24 PM
IamDarren: That would be a good headline for the group review page. It is one of the only reviews that gives you an idea of consistency.
8:26 PM
IamDarren: You don’t want to buy a box only to have half or two thirds perform well
8:27 PM
IamDarren: Was that Nat Sherman the one we thought may have been due to improper boxing. I remember one of them tasting like paint thinner or laquer.
8:28 PM
StraightUpCigars: I know what you’re talking about, I can’t remember which one that was now.
8:29 PM
Terry1: Got about an inch left. Plenty of flavors. Burn is about straight. I expected more problems being a boxed press with a stiff draw. I’m really impressed with the burn after I noticed it has a ligero wrapper. Ligero usually burns slower and gets stuffed in the middle.
8:29 PM
IamDarren: maybe that was Therman Thomas… too many reviews to remember
8:30 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, mine got off to a bad start with the burn, but fixed itself and has been reliable ever since.
8:31 PM
Terry1: Strength is there but it remains a manageable medium.
8:31 PM
StraightUpCigars: Good point, strength isn’t bad for a cigar with Nicaraguan filler.
8:32 PM
IamDarren: i will give credit to the rollers. this one is performing very well for a box press. It has stayed firm and is not heating up.
8:35 PM
IamDarren: damn, im starting to shiver a bit. Will have to start heading out to the shed before long.
8:35 PM
IamDarren: wind is already picking up
8:35 PM
IamDarren: neighbor is out cutting their milo (sorghum) right now
8:36 PM
IamDarren: probably a good idea because it will be flat on the ground tomorrow
8:36 PM
Terry1: I’ve got both heaters going over here. It’s 35 outside my shed.
8:37 PM
Terry1: I’m done. Good cigar. Hated to put it down. Ready to rate when you are.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: I put mine to rest too. Ratings coming
8:37 PM
IamDarren: mine is almost done, savoring the last few puffs. Good from start to finish!
8:40 PM
IamDarren: if i could find a deal on these i would snatch them up in a heartbeat. Great cigar.
8:41 PM
Terry1: I agree, great cigar! General did a good job with this one. I enjoyed the flavors and the construction was good. Recommend trying this one.
8:41 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, this one packed a bunch of flavor into an easy to smoke package. Good one!
