Dignity Red Label – Cigar Review

Hey Everyone.  This week’s group review is of the Dignity Red Label.  This cigar is made up of tobacco grown organically in Costa Rica.  None of us were sure what to expect with this one, but we were excited to smoke another small boutique cigar.  Upon lighting, we were immediately impressed.  The construction and flavor were incredible.  Mild in body, but offered a ton of flavor: creamy and cedary with pepper and spice on the finish.  The entire smoke was delicious, and the flavors evolved as we smoked.  We feel this is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced smoker, which makes this a very unique cigar.  This one is a must try!  You can continue reading to see more of the reasons we loved it.

StraightUpCigars: Mine has a nice looking wrapper with some small veins and it smells awesome. Peppery earthy smell. I cut mine and it has a PERFECT draw. Good start over here.

7:43 PM
Terry1: This is a nice looking cigar. Draw is great. Getting a fruity note on the cold draw. Ready to light up.

7:44 PM
IamDarren: not much aroma or flavor on the cold draw for me, but the construction looks good and the draw only has a slight resistance.

7:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: Good news! Let’s light em up.

7:45 PM
IamDarren: you got it

7:46 PM
IamDarren: nice start, lots of creamy smoke. Mostly wood notes with a touch of spice.

7:48 PM
StraightUpCigars: Good start here too. Tons of smoke! Creamy and cedary with a very faint spice. Tastes good.

7:49 PM
IamDarren: it sure is a perfect evening here. Hit 80 earlier today but now is just below 70.

7:49 PM
Terry1: Like how the Dignity is starting! Getting spice, sweetness, cedar and a touch of pepper. Lots of smoke. Good start.

7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: The story with Dignity is organic growing methods in Costa Rica. They are mostly sold at B&Ms.

7:51 PM
IamDarren: i noticed the name Don Juan on the band. Have we had any of his other blends. The name sounds familiar.

7:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Certainly rings a bell, I am going to look him up.

7:53 PM
Terry1: There’s a flavor I’m liking that I can’t identify yet. Could be something slightly floral.

7:54 PM
IamDarren: Burn is going very well on my stick. Getting a little more sweetness up front, its light and reminds me of caramel. Also getting a little pepper on the retrohale.

7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: I love the look of the light gray ash. Good burn line too.

7:57 PM
StraightUpCigars: Didn’t find much on the cigar maker Don Juan. I did find out that there are a lot of Don Juans out there.

7:58 PM
Terry1: This cigar is very aromatic. I’ll bet my wife would like the smell from this one.

7:58 PM
IamDarren: i looked a little too. There is a Don Juan that sells all kinds of organic food in Costa Rica. Maybe it is the same guy…..

7:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: This is one of the most mild bodied cigars I have had in a long time. Not a bad change of pace, really.

The Don’Juan – Cigar Samplers – The Costa Rica Cigar Store

8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: Damn, not a bad price from a small manufacturer and retailer IMO.

8:04 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think all of the cigars in the pic are under the Dignity name now.

8:07 PM
IamDarren: mine has lost most of the spice and pepper. Its now really mellow with even more sweetenss. I agree with Terry, it has a light floral sweetness too it that doesn’t linger on the palate long but is very enjoyable.

8:08 PM
Terry1: I think I like Costa Rican cigars! I agree it’s mild in body but there’s a lot of subtle flavors popping in and out. It is a nice change from the pepper bombs. Makes me want to try the other cigars in that sampler.

8:09 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yeah it is very mellow now. There is a floral or fruity flavor in there, for sure.

8:13 PM
Terry1: Ash just fell off in a solid one inch chunk. Burn is getting a little wavey but not needing correction. Nice easy draw, lots of smoke. The sweetness seems to be building. I’m enjoying this one.

8:17 PM
StraightUpCigars: My burn is a little wavy too, Terry. Not bad, though. I have some spice coming back in! I am at about the halfway mark, maybe a bit past.

8:18 PM
Terry1: The Dignity seems to be smoking slowly. I’m getting more of a cedar note now along with the caramel.

8:19 PM
IamDarren: same here, just crossed the half way mark and flavors are pretty much the same. I am getting a hint of spice again, but its very subtle.

8:20 PM
IamDarren: So how on earth did you get these Matt, just went looking for some “off the beaten path” botiques…. or were they in a sampler?

8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: I was contacted on Twitter out of the blue by Dignity. They were very professional and simply asked for my address. A few days later… wala. Straight Up from Costa Rica.

8:22 PM
IamDarren: Hey thats great! Glad we can help them get some recognition.

8:23 PM
Terry1: I agree. Glad to spread the word on this cigar. The only fault I can find with the Dignity is the availability. I’d like to get some more of these.

8:24 PM
IamDarren: The flavors on mine are starting to get a bit bolder. Picking up that rich woody note i got at the beginning. The sweetness is getting richer and is now bordering on mocha.

8:25 PM
StraightUpCigars: Agreed, I’m not sure what their future plans are as far as retail goes. I think these have potential right now.

8:25 PM
Terry1: Hugh plus, the band came off cleanly. Didn’t even rip the paper.

8:26 PM
IamDarren: i’m really enjoying this sucker. I could see myself getting a box just to have a great cigar for any time of day.

8:27 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine just came off cleanly too.

8:36 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is really ramping up right now. More pepper and spice. Entirely delicious cigar at this point.

8:37 PM
IamDarren: Same here, flavors keep getting bolder but the strength is still pretty mellow. Mabye medium bodied at this point.

8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: Oh, I did do one burn correction. May not have needed it, but I think it helped.

8:39 PM
Terry1: I agree. I’m liking the journey this cigar is taking. I did a minor correction on mine too.

8:40 PM
IamDarren: none needed here, but the ash has been falling off faster in the second half for some reason.

8:41 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has a very chewy texture to the smoke. Ridiculous amount of flavor with some espresso joining the fun! Mucho props to Dignity, this one is a hit in my book. Unfortunately mine does not have much left. I am damn near the nub now. Where are you guys?

8:42 PM
IamDarren: nearing the nub here, defenitely getting more pepper now, i can tell that its heating up but still very enjoyable.

8:43 PM
Terry1: You guys are ahead of me. I still have an inch left.

8:44 PM
IamDarren: ok, i have an inch left if i decided to burn my fingers.

8:44 PM
IamDarren: which i might do

8:45 PM
IamDarren: where is a toothpick when you need one?

8:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: I usually check the kitchen first…

8:45 PM
IamDarren: smart ass

8:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: I do my best.

8:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: I wonder what that HUGE vitola smokes like? I would have to think it can’t improve on this one, only make it worse.

8:50 PM
IamDarren: time to put it down  just burnt my fingers and my lips on that last draw.

8:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS! Finally

8:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: I delivered a winner. I was on like a 20 cigar losing streak

8:54 PM
Terry1: Restored my faith in small boutiques.

8:56 PM
IamDarren: agreed, i love it when a small botique comes through. i hope they can get thier name out.
