Diesel Rage – Cigar Review

 diesel rage cigar 2
Up for review is the Diesel Rage cigar.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the previous cigars in the Diesel line, so we’re looking forward to trying this one.  This is a great looking cigar with an open draw after cutting.  Once lit up, we tasted a rich leather and spice with a sweet finish.  We found that you have to puff this one slow to keep it from becoming bitter.  Towards the end it continued to get sweeter despite its full body.  Overall, we loved the delicious flavor and full body.  It was a little less complex than some of the other Diesel cigars, and is also pricey, but it is easily worth it.  Give one a try!

7:34 PM
StraightUpCigars: This Diesel Rage has a nice sweet cedar smell to the wrapper and an open draw after cutting. Love the box-pressed torp shape.
7:38 PM
IamDarren: just got the cello off. Construction looks solid
7:38 PM
Terry1: Nice looking cigar. Got a perfect draw with a nice fermented tobacco note. The wrapper has a rough leather feel that I like. Ready to light up.
7:38 PM
IamDarren: easy draw on mine. Slight cedar and spice on the cold draw
7:39 PM
IamDarren: im ready to light
7:39 PM
StraightUpCigars: Me too! Lighting.
7:43 PM
StraightUpCigars: Getting a real rich leather flavor with a somewhat bitter and sour fruit finish. I like it.
7:44 PM
IamDarren: same here. Leather, spice, hint of sweetness on the finish with a hint of citrus
7:45 PM
Terry1: Initial puffs are good. I’m getting a nice sweetness, leather and some spice in the aroma. There’s some bitterness on the finish on mine as well.
7:48 PM
IamDarren: spice seems to be transitioning over to more of a pepper on mine. However the mouth feel is still very creamy which I didn’t expect from this flavor combo. Its very enjoyable right now.
7:50 PM
IamDarren: its also pairing unexpectedly well with my Ale
7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars: Super enjoyable. My flavors are meshing together into one delicious one.
7:53 PM
IamDarren: watch the ash, mine almost fell in my lap
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: Thanks for the heads up, mine dropped with a light tap.
7:55 PM
Terry1: I’m getting the citrus mentioned already. Overall the flavor is good but I’m not caring for the bitter finish. Not overwhelming yet. I’m drinking water tonight. I’m wondering if the beer is making some of the bitterness for you.
7:56 PM
IamDarren: my bitterness has started to fade. Im mostly getting it at the end of the finish so I think it may just be those typical ligero flavors coming through
7:57 PM
IamDarren: this cigar is surprisingly smooth and the flavors are well balanced so far
7:58 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is the same, bitterness only at the end of the finish. It is burning hot. No matter, I love the flavor at the moment.
8:00 PM
IamDarren: starting to get more pepper and spice on the retrohale
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: Construction is real good on mine so far. Produces a ton of smoke easily.
8:01 PM
Terry1: I agree with the smoothness. I’m smoking slower and it seems to help with the bitterness or I’ve hit the same point Darren has and the bitternes is fading on its own.
8:02 PM
IamDarren: I haven’t really kept track of it, but I know that I generally smoke cigars a lot slower than I used to.
8:03 PM
IamDarren: brings out more flavor when its cool I think
8:04 PM
Terry1: I think you’re right. Heats up the oils but doesn’t scorch them.
8:05 PM
StraightUpCigars: I have forced myself to smoke this one slower since it’s a smaller vitola and burns hot. I think it is making a big difference.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: this one is easy. There is quite a bit of resting smoke for about 25 to 20 seconds after the draw. That is about how long I wait.
8:08 PM
StraightUpCigars: A sweet creamy flavor is getting bold, but at the same time a dark cocoa flavor is there too. It’s getting fuller bodied for me.
8:09 PM
Terry1: Getting a nice cedar note mixing in. Burn has been great. Ash is loose thou.
8:10 PM
IamDarren: im into the second third now. I may be starting to pick up a little of that cocoa. Still leather up front for me.
8:14 PM
StraightUpCigars: This one is tricky – I just happen to be in the mood to sit back and enjoy. If I were speed smoking this one like I occasionaly do, I think it would rate poorly.
8:15 PM
IamDarren: still getting just the right amount of sweetness to balance the leather up front and the pepper finish. Hasn’t changed a whole lot since the start but it is reminding me of the Unholy Cocktail: chewey, smooth smoke with some hidden strength and complexity.
8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars: Good description. I was just sitting back thinking this one is starting to kick my ass with the strength.
8:18 PM
IamDarren: AJ has this way of blending that fools you into thinking its a much milder cigar, then it slowly creeps up on you.
8:18 PM
IamDarren: One of the things I love about his fuller bodied cigars.
8:19 PM
Terry1: Yeah I’m starting to feel it too. Bitterness is all but gone. Full bodied now. I’m liking this vitola with this blend.
8:21 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice! I sometimes get this burst of sweetness, almost as if dropping a few grains of brown sugar on my tongue. Really balances out that big time full bodied flavor.
8:21 PM
IamDarren: i just read the CI description and it mentions vanilla. I think mine has some of it for sure. I couldn’t pick it out until the bitterness started to fade at the halfway mark.
8:22 PM
IamDarren: i just started the last third
8:23 PM
IamDarren: this particular vitola is around 8 bucks a stick though
8:24 PM
StraightUpCigars: Yikes, these Diesels are going up in price!
8:25 PM
IamDarren: there are some on the cbid free fall. Looks like you can pick them up for 5-6 bucks there.
8:26 PM
Terry1: Maybe it’s from your suggestion but I’m picking up the vanilla too. Getting close to the end. Strong cigar but not as strong as I expected. I will survive this one.
8:26 PM
IamDarren: i gotta say i think mine is really coming into the sweet spot now (literally). Sweetness is building, lots of flavor coming through now.
8:27 PM
StraightUpCigars: I with you guys, just gets better and better. Going to be hard to set this one down.
8:30 PM
IamDarren: its worth noting that i had one of these fresh out of the shipping box and it was a lot stronger and had more pepper, which led to a simpler flavor profile. A month or so of aging helps this one a lot.
8:31 PM
Terry1: Good to know. I’m setting my down. Too small to hold. The last third was the best. Great finish. Maybe with more age the first third will get better.
8:33 PM
IamDarren: mine is trying to heat up a bit in the last inch, really having to take it slow. I can rate at any time
8:33 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is toast too. What a treat.
8:36 PM
IamDarren: i think this was a pretty good vitola too, a toro or long torpedo might be too much.
8:36 PM
IamDarren: thanks for hanging in there Terry
8:38 PM
Terry1: Good cigar but I had to knock a few points off for the bitterness. I almost set it down during that first third. Once the bitterness faded the flavors really shined. Enjoyed the last half. I recommend trying the Diesel Rage.
8:38 PM
StraightUpCigars: Loved the vitola, lots of flavor with a couple of transitions. Really enjoyable cigar.
8:39 PM
IamDarren: way better than i expected after smoking the first one. I may have to grab another fiver and let them rest for awhile
