Cusano 18 Corojo – Cigar Review

DSCF3499
The original Cusano 18 gets its name from the 18 year old filler leaf, this cigar with a Corojo wrapper has that same filler.  The wrapper leaf has some veins, but the construction seems good prior to lighting.  Once lit, we tasted sweet cedar with some spice.  Later on, we got some coffee flavor.  Overall, we liked the mild but enjoyable flavor and felt this would be a good morning cigar.  All of our sticks had good construction too.  It’s a steal at a few bucks apiece, and we highly recommend giving them a try!

StraightUpCigars: This Cusano 18 has a veiny and rough wrapper leaf with earthy smell. Perfect draw after cutting it.
7:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: So it looks like this one is the corojo version, the more common connecticut has a brown band.
7:42 PM
IamDarren: I have been a fan of the maduro for quite awhile so im excited for this one
7:43 PM
IamDarren: wrapper has some medium veins. Cigar seems packed well. Getting a hint of wood and pepper on the cold draw.
7:45 PM
Terry1: Mostly smooth looking corojo wrapper. I’ve got a slightly snug draw with just a generic tobacco note on the cold draw.
7:45 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lighting up!
7:46 PM
Terry1: Lighting up.
7:46 PM
IamDarren: in the shed, so im breaking out the torch “)
7:49 PM
IamDarren: interesting. Base flavor is a very musty wood note with a slightly sweet spice and pepper on the finish.
7:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: This has a real pleasant and mild earthy flavor with a sweet creamy finish. Just a hint of spice.
7:50 PM
Terry1: Great cedar notes for me with a hint of sweetness and spice. Good start.
7:52 PM
IamDarren: mine is picking up a lot of sweetness already. Musty note has morphed into a cedar/spice combo.
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lots of smoke production
7:55 PM
IamDarren: looks like i won a couple fivers on cbid. Padilla 1932 Black and Asylum 33. You guys have your eye on anything?
7:58 PM
StraightUpCigars: Looking around nothing is jumping out at me. Can’t believe the price of those Makers Mark and haven’t heard of Psyko Seven before.
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: I bet you bid on the PDR Small Batch?
8:00 PM
IamDarren: pondering it
8:00 PM
StraightUpCigars: Ash dropped already, nice even burn though.
8:01 PM
IamDarren: smoke production has backed off a little one mine. Seems to be mellowing out. Almost no pepper now and the spice is mostly in the retrohale.
8:02 PM
IamDarren: Is this a Dominican puro? I noticed it said Dominicano on the band.
8:03 PM
Terry1: I’m noticing a mellowing of flavors on mine as well. A slightly sweet cedar is what I’m picking up. Burn is doing great.
8:04 PM
StraightUpCigars: I think it’s a puro based on the description.
8:04 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s actually going the other way, getting a little richer and darker. No more spice though.
8:06 PM
IamDarren: they are finally offering up some Kristoff fivers. Which ones are your favorite Terry? Do you think we should review one?
8:09 PM

Terry1: I like many Kristoffs. The Galerones line is all good. I’ve got the Kristoff Cameroon already for us to review. I’ll be sending cigars soon.
8:11 PM
IamDarren: Sweet, can’t wait to try that one
8:11 PM
StraightUpCigars: Looks like we’ve done the GC Sig and Ligero Maduro already.
8:11 PM
Terry1: He has a corojo that’s really good.
8:15 PM
Terry1: Hey Darren, the cigar festival early bird tickets go on sale Friday. Are you going to make it this year?
8:15 PM
IamDarren: just crossed the halfway point on my stick. Liking the flavor. Medium body, mostly cedar and sweet spice. Not was i was expecting from a Corojo.
8:15 PM
IamDarren: Thanks for the reminder! I will discuss it with the wife tonight
8:16 PM
Terry1: I’m getting the general admission ticket this year. That way I can spend more at the booths.
8:17 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has started to give some coffee flavor and that spice is slowly making its way back in too.
8:19 PM
Terry1: I agree there is a coffee note on the finish. Still has the sweet cedar. Spice is building on mine too. Liking the flavor.
8:20 PM
Terry1: They will most likely add more cigars to the list. Last two years there were over 40 cigars in the general admission bag.
8:21 PM
IamDarren: Oh sweet, so they just throw in some more premiums in the VIP bag?
8:22 PM
Terry1: Yeah it’s a separate bag and has around 20 cigars.
8:26 PM
StraightUpCigars: Almost forgot to tell you guys, I’m going to miss next week, I’m out of town for work.
8:28 PM
IamDarren: ok, thanks for the heads up
8:28 PM
StraightUpCigars: Feel free to light one up without me of course
8:30 PM
Terry1: Sounds good. I should be available next week.
8:31 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine ramped up to medium bodied now, with coffee and a mix of sweet/spice on the finish. Finish really lingers. I’m enjoying this one.
8:33 PM
IamDarren: into the last third. Starting to pick up a little coffee and the spice is building. Medium/full body now. Still a lot of sweetness.
8:33 PM
Terry1: I’m enjoying the Cusano too. I was thinking this would be a good morning cigar with coffee.
8:34 PM
StraightUpCigars: Good point, this would make a great morning smoke.
8:39 PM
IamDarren: Internet just went down. I’m on my phone. Decided to restart the PC and it needed to install 57 updates…..
8:40 PM
StraightUpCigars: always happens at the worst time
8:40 PM
Terry1: Lol, gotta love that.
8:42 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is hitting nub status, just a few puffs left.
8:42 PM
IamDarren: I shouldn’t complain. My internet has been very good since I switched. Thinking about ditching Dish Network and getting Hulu.
8:43 PM
Terry1: I’m about done too.
8:44 PM
IamDarren: Same here. Gonna take a few more puffs and head up to the house.
8:44 PM
StraightUpCigars: We use a Roku and subscribe to Amazon/Netflix/NHLnetwork. It’s more TV than we could ever watch.
8:49 PM
IamDarren: I really enjoyed it. Had a little corojo flavor but was never too strong. Could be smoked any time of day with about any beverage.
8:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: Overall, this one started off very mild and ramped up to medium bodied. Pleasant flavors the whole time. I think it’s a buy you can get them for a few bucks each online.
8:50 PM
Terry1: I agree. Nice constant flavors. Great construction and affordable. I’d recommend the Cusano Corojo.
