Today we’re reviewing the newest version of the Carlos Torano Exodus. This cigar has a rustic looking and bold smelling wrapper leaf. The draw is good after cutting. After lighting, my sample had several large stems in the filler that made it virtually unsmokable. Terry’s cigar was fine. After I pitched the bad one and lit up a new one we were back on track. We tasted earth, sweet cedar, and some coffee on the finish. Later on, it transitioned to a pepper and spice dominated flavor. Overall, one of the 3 samples was literally trash. The other two were quite enjoyable sticks with good construction and flavor. The bad stick was just a lapse in QC and is probably a very rare occurrence, but it affects our scores nonetheless. Try at your own risk!

StraightUpCigars: Pretty bold smelling cigar. Wrapper looks great. I had to do a deep cut to get a decent draw.
Terry1: The Torano Exodus has a somewhat rustic aromatic wrapper with a few veins and bumps. Mine has a good draw with a shallow cut. Getting some cedar and some pungent sweetness on the cold draw. Ready to light up.
StraightUpCigars: Lighting up!
StraightUpCigars: Wow. Bold, excruciatingly bitter flavor. Maybe I’ve got a stem to start.
Terry1: I’m trying to decide if I like the start of this cigar. I have some bitterness too. I also get some sweetness, cedar and a mild pepper. Cigar is producing plenty of smoke.
StraightUpCigars: The reason I bring up stems right away, other than it tasting like I’m smoking a bundle of them, is that I can clearly see 4 or 5 large stems at the head of the cigar.
StraightUpCigars: I pulled a couple of them out, massive. One broke off in there. This is unacceptable and I won’t smoke this. I’m going to see if I have another Exodus, or light something else up. BRB
Terry1: I can’t see any in mine. Don’t you know you are supposed to pass on the duds to someone else, not keep them? I do hope it gets better for you. I’m really liking the aroma from this cigar. The bitterness is like a black coffee and it’s on the finish.
StraightUpCigars: Lol, I lost on that lotto ticket. Grabbed a new Exodus, this one doesn’t have the stems.
StraightUpCigars: This one is totally different, I have to get the nasty taste out of my mouth from the last one so I can taste it.
Terry1: Let’s hope this one is better. Into the first inch, the pepper is getting stronger and so is the sweetness. Enjoying the battle. Still has an earthy, coffee note on the finish.
StraightUpCigars: This one is better all around. Good draw, sweet cedar flavor with some coffee.
Terry1: I realize these are handmade products but I’m surprised a cigar with that bad of construction made it through production. Isn’t Torano owned by Davidoff now? I know the band looks a lot like the Camacho bands.
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, I have no idea. Must have been a disgruntled worker. There’s no way that was an accident. They’re owned by General, not sure which division they’re under.
Terry1: Looked up the Torano site and this cigar is not listed. Not sure if this is a new blend or an old blend with a new band. Do you know?
StraightUpCigars: I think it’s just a new band, these came to us from General with the IPCPR batch.
StraightUpCigars: The invoice had them listed as simply Torano Exodus Robusto.
Terry1: Found them listed on CI’s site. Doesn’t say if it’s a new blend or not. I’m thinking it’s a new band on an existing cigar too.
Terry1: Oh well, doesn’t really matter. I am enjoying it. It’s still smoking well with an even burn. Lots of sweetness and cedar. Pepper has mellowed. Bitterness is gone.
StraightUpCigars: I’m getting some pepper and spice now, it’s got some heat.
Terry1: Wow just peeled the band off. One of the easiest bands to get off. The glue didn’t even mare the label. I will say I like the large font used. It’s easy for me to read without glasses when I’m in a walk in humidor.
StraightUpCigars: Agreed, it’s a cool band. I like the colors too.
Terry1: I’m at the halfway mark, I’m liking the aroma. Getting a pleasant creamy sweetness with a mild pepper in the sinus. Is yours smoking better now?
StraightUpCigars: Oh yeah, I am enjoying this one. Construction is good, flavors are pretty good. Good smoke this time.
Terry1: It was good you had another one. I can’t remember having a cigar that had so much bitterness I couldn’t smoke it. And being the “same” cigar it’s crazy how different mine was. Glad the second one is better.
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, that truly just grossed me out. Like smoking a bundle of stems (which I was). Really unacceptable, and will be reflected in my scoring, but this second one is completely normal.
StraightUpCigars: Getting a really rich earthy flavor with some bitter coffee and still some pepper. Really liking it at the moment.
Terry1: Into the last third, the pepper has come back and the sweetness has mellowed. It’s more like what you described with an earthy core, coffee and some pepper.
StraightUpCigars: We’re supposed to have a crazy ice storm roll through this weekend. We’ll see if it’s a false alarm or not. I wish it would happen during the week so I could work from home!
Terry1: Yeah I’ve had to do that a few times this winter. We had freezing rain a few days ago. Made traveling a mess. Stayed home that day. Maybe it’s the same storm system coming your way. After the storm it warmed up to 50 degrees. Enjoyed that!
StraightUpCigars: Nice. I bet it’s the same system. Darren’s probably in it right now.
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s getting close to the end. I can’t believe how long yours has lasted! I just smoke faster I guess.
Terry1: I’m at the end. I’ve been smoking slow so you can catch up. Ready to rate when you are.
StraightUpCigars: Ok, ratings on the way.
StraightUpCigars: The burn was real straight on this one and the ash holds on tight. Good draw too. I liked the flavor, nothing too complex, but good. The first Exodus that was full of stems and tasted terrible really hurt the “buy a box” category – I would be pissed if I picked one off the shelves from a B&M or bought a whole box and got that.
Terry1: I really enjoyed the flavor of the Torano Exodus. Burn and smoke production was great. I am spooked about buying a box after your first experience. I plan on buying at least a fiver in the near future. I can recommend trying it.
