C & C Connecticut – Cigar Review

Hey everyone!  This week’s cigar review is of the C & C Connecticut robusto.  I picked up some of these on the cheap based on positive reviews.  They’ve got a really nice wrapper and the draw is perfect.  We could hardly wait to light it up!  It has sweet creamy, cedary, and nutty flavor with just a little pepper and spice.  Really delicious!  The construction was perfect on all of our sticks.  For a couple of bucks each, these are an excellent value.  Exactly the type of value cigar we are looking for on SUC.  Darren mentioned “this is one of the best connies I’ve had to date”.  I agree, and so will you!

I had trouble finding the cigar. I hope we are still smoking the C&C Connecticut.

7:36 PM
IamDarren: yep, got it ready. going outside!

7:41 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I’m all set up now. This cigar has a nice sweet ceday smell w/ an oily wrapper that only has small veins. Nice looking cigar!

7:43 PM
IamDarren: yeah im getting a hint of cocoa on the foot. pretty good construction, there are a couple small holes but nothing major. I don’t know if i would call the wrapper oily, mine looks like worn leather.

7:44 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: My draw is excellent and I get a lot of pepper flavor on the cold draw

7:44 PM
IamDarren: draw is good here as well, im also getting a sweet cedary flavor on the cold draw.

7:45 PM
Terry1: The draw on mine is great too. I’m also getting more of the sweet cedar note on the cold draw. Lighting up.

7:47 PM
IamDarren: im getting cedar and cream on the first few puffs, starting off very mellow.

7:47 PM
IamDarren: a touch of pepper on the retrohale

7:50 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Nice creamy and cedary flavor w/ some pepper and spice on the finish. I like the way it started.

7:50 PM
Terry1: I’m liking how the C&C is starting. More flavorful than I expected. There are notes of cedar, a roasted nut with an underlying sweetness. Surprisingly I don’t get the grassiness many Connecticut wrappers have. Maybe it’ll show up later.

7:51 PM
IamDarren: yeah i almost forgot that flavor, its been awhile since i smoked a good Connie.

7:53 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I am tasting a nutty flavor as well. This one is already in the medium body realm IMO.

7:54 PM
IamDarren: i really like the creaminess on this stick, it just coats your palate like, well… cream. Nice and sweet too.

7:54 PM
IamDarren: reminds me of when i used to take rediwhip and just shoot it in my mouth.

7:55 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: TMI

7:56 PM
IamDarren: oh you know you did the same thing…

7:56 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Ok, ok, I may have done that with EZ cheese.

7:57 PM
IamDarren: you are missing out my friend. Go out and buy a can of redi whip tomorrow!

7:57 PM
IamDarren: nice tight ash on this cigar, burn line is nice and crisp too.

7:59 PM
Terry1: I get a little pepper every now and then. Mine started with a wavey burn line but it evened out on it’s own.

8:01 PM
IamDarren: agreed, approaching the second third i am starting to get a slight tingle in the back of my mouth on the finish. Its just like a hint of pepper but the creaminess really coats it.

8:02 PM
IamDarren: ash is over an inch now and holding strong

8:02 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Mine is burning really well. Construction is a + over here. Nothing bad to say at this point.

8:07 PM
Terry1: I’ve had cigars that cost three times as much that didn’t burn this nice. Ash finally fell off in a solid chunk.

8:08 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Yeah, these were cheapies. $2-$3 a stick if I remember right.

8:08 PM
IamDarren: i finally tapped mine off at 1.5 inches. I didn’t want to watch it fall in my lap. I have to say that it still took a little effort to get it off though.

8:08 PM
IamDarren: so whats the story behind C&C Matt?

8:10 PM
Terry1: That’s going to be a long answer.

8:10 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I really don’t know  I was looking it up…

8:11 PM
IamDarren: i thought i read that the guy who came up with these also came up with the Cusano cigars….

8:12 PM
Terry1: It’s Joe Chiusano from Cusano Cigars. This is his new company after he sold Cusano to Davidoff.

8:12 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Oh, I’m going to delete my incorrect statement

8:12 PM
IamDarren: ok, well that explains it.

8:13 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: They don’t have any of that info on the site..,

8:13 PM
IamDarren: that seems kinda dumb, the follwers of his previous brand would probably like to know that piece of info.

8:14 PM
Terry1: The guy knows how to make a good value priced cigar. Lots of creamy good flavors and A+ on construction. Now I’m curious about his other blends.

8:15 PM
IamDarren: so did C&C send you these Matt?

8:15 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: No, I bought these. They were your suggestion

8:15 PM
IamDarren: i must be loosing my mind…

8:15 PM
IamDarren: glad i have you guys to help me keep things straight.

8:16 PM
Terry1: I heard he has another maduro coming out that’s a bit stronger than the current LRMD.

8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Glad we have you to make good (and blind, apparently) suggestions.

8:17 PM
IamDarren: lol, i’ve got skills but can’t remember them half the time…

8:18 PM
Terry1: lol That’s funny!

8:19 PM
IamDarren: people who say you can never learn too much are full of shit. Seems like when i learn one thing something else gets booted out.

8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Mine is developing a much richer flavor profile right now. The sweetness is mostly gone is is replaced with a bold coffee flavor.

8:21 PM
IamDarren: huh, i just crossed the halfway point and mine is still very mellow and creamy

8:22 PM
Terry1: Mine is ramping up and has lost the sweetness. I’m noticing more pepper on the lips and in the back of the throat. It’s making me want to drink more.

8:22 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I’m a little past halfway and just removed the band (which came off easily btw)

8:23 PM
IamDarren: i think i just got used to those Genesis cigars. I smoked my second one yesterday, so my palate is probably a little off.

8:23 PM
Terry1: This cigar reminds me a lot of the EPC New Wave.

8:24 PM
IamDarren: i can agree with that, i am sending some in the next trade btw.

8:26 PM
IamDarren: as i appraoch the last third i am starting to feel it heating up a bit and am getting a hint of coffee, maybe a hint of chocolate too.

8:27 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Looking forward to trying both of those!

8:27 PM
IamDarren: the pepper is also building

8:28 PM
IamDarren: i got mostly 10 packs this time so if you guys want more of a particular stick just let me know. I was thinking of sending Terry a few extra New Waves and Matt a few extra Genesis..

8:29 PM
IamDarren: i also got 10 of the bareknuckles

8:29 PM
Terry1: I’m about halfway through the final third and, surprise, I’m starting to feel this cigar. Did not expect that.

8:30 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Nice! That sounds like a plan to me. I don’t have many new review sticks, but I plan to send more singles to smoke for fun next time.

8:31 PM
IamDarren: same here, i actually was planning on sending several sticks that have been buried in my humi for about 2 years. See if you guys think the aging has helped or not.

8:31 PM
Terry1: I had to stop buying for a few months. I was getting to the point where I couldn’t close the lid on the humidor or the overflow coolidor. It was either smoke like a chimney for a few months or buy another cooler. I chose smoking and I’m loving it!

8:32 PM
IamDarren: lol, as fast as i am buying them i have to do both!

8:32 PM
IamDarren: you may want to go ahead and buy another cooler before i send out my sticks…

8:33 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I can’t wait for fall, this weather has really put a damper on my cigar smoking. We just keep sending our overflow over to the next guy, who is also overflowing

8:34 PM
Terry1: lol. I’ve been saving up for the festival. Being after IPCPR I’m hoping to see some new sticks.

8:35 PM
IamDarren: i already have plans of putting in a small smoking room in the basement when i fix it up. I hate smoking outside when its still 90+ outside.

8:36 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Agreed, I am downstairs tonight. We got our first real rain for the last 4 months 2 days ago, so it is humid out there too.

8:37 PM
IamDarren: we actually got a small shower this morning, but as soon as the sun came out it was gone.

8:37 PM
Terry1: The cooler I just bought sure helps me. It doesn’t make much difference in the overall room but it blows cool air on me keeping me comfortable.

8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Whats the temp out there Terry?

8:39 PM
Terry1: Outside 93, inside 88.

8:39 PM
IamDarren: my cigar has really transitioned in the last third. Now im mostly getting cedar and spice with some coffee on the finish. Still very enjoyable.

8:41 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: That’s the nice thing about that western air, several degrees cooler if you step out of the sun.

8:41 PM
Terry1: I’m getting close to the end. Still producing a lot of flavors, cedar, spice and coffee. Good cigar. Perfect burn. Not what I expected.

8:42 PM
IamDarren: agreed, its a great value cigar.

8:42 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: My flavor is about the same as both of yours. I would call this one a simple flavor profile, but completely delicious. They did good work.

8:44 PM
IamDarren: sometimes simple flavors are the best, i do like a little complexity but sometimes it can be too much. I have a feeling that this blend would be very consistent from one stick to the next.

8:45 PM
Terry1: Agree. I’m setting mine down. It’s burning my fingers now. Very consistant in flavors and construction. Good cigar.

8:47 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Agreed. Mine is just about cashed too.

8:47 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: I think this is a great cigar. The price, construction and wrapper are PERFECT, it lacks a little in complexity but delivers with consistent pleasant flavor.

8:48 PM
IamDarren: same here, laying mine down to rest.

8:54 PM
IamDarren: one of the best Connies i have smoked to date

8:54 PM
StraightUpCigars – Matt: Agreed.

8:55 PM
Terry1: Yeah. This is one to keep in the humidor.
