This week’s group cigar review is of the C & C Cigars Corojo. This cigar has a cedary smell to it and a fairly open draw after cutting. Once lit up, it start out earthy and creamy with some sweetness and a nice amount of peppery spice to balance it all out. It mellows out a bit in the second third, then that pepper and sweetness comes back in the final third. Overall, this cigar is far from complex, but tastes good the entire time. We think it’s a tremendous value and makes a great cigar to smoke at your next BBQ!

IamDarren: my cigar is constructed well and the draw is very easy
Terry1: My C&C Corojo feels well constructed and has an open draw. I get a cocoa and woody note on the cold draw.
StraightUpCigars: My C&C corojo has got a nice sweet cedary smell. I have a fairly tight draw, but I used a shallow cut. I’m ready to light this baby up!
IamDarren: im getting a very feint hint of cocoa on the draw
IamDarren: lighting up
IamDarren: getting some pepper right out of the gate
StraightUpCigars: Mine started out earthy and is dominated by pepper and spice. Lots of flavor from this relatively small cigar./
IamDarren: lol, i think you are smoking too many of those brutes
IamDarren: this is 5×50 right?
Terry1: Mine is starting out real creamy with a peppery zing. Lots of smoke. Good way to start.
StraightUpCigars: Yeah 5×50, but it looks tiny compared to a lot of the others in the “to be reviewed” area.
IamDarren: smoke output has really increased now and is coating my palate well, definitely a sweet creamy note coming through with the pepper now.
IamDarren: speaking of that, have you talked to Gary yet? I have my sticks ready to ship out when we decide.
StraightUpCigars: I have not. I’m not sure how this will work since we have so many sticks lined up for review already. Got any ideas?
IamDarren: whatever we have right now is just for us. I will send out mine to everyone and when we get to them he can join. I suppose he could still join us for the chat before that just to get a feel for it.
IamDarren: only a half inch in, pepper is really subsiding and being replaced by sweetness. Its creamy but light on the palate, almost floral.
StraightUpCigars: Fair enough, I’ll ask him.
IamDarren: he may not want too so we will just have to see what he thinks. I will wait so send mine out.
IamDarren: “to send mine out”
IamDarren: …. i think floral might be the wrong word. Its bordering on cinnamon, i think the spice and the sweetness are mixing very well.
StraightUpCigars: I’m on board with the cinnamon. My spice is still pretty strong, but a little sweetness has crept in. Real good cigar right now.
Terry1: I agree with Darren. The pepper has really faded. Still very creamy and slightly sweet. Loose ash thou, it just dropped off on it’s own in the ashtray.
IamDarren: did you guys see the pic that Gary took of the LHC Core? That thing was like solid ash with a half inch of cigar left at the nub!
StraightUpCigars: I didn’t notice. His cigar “graveyard” pics crack me up.
IamDarren: he just put up part of the LHC Oscuro Fuerte review, he must be smoking it right now.
IamDarren: over an inch into mine now and the sweetness has actually subsided a bit and its getting a slightly dry earthy flavor now.
StraightUpCigars: You guys ever do any skiing Terry?
IamDarren: its been about 5 years for me
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, 3 for me.
Terry1: I used to ski a lot when I was younger. I haven’t been on the slopes for a decade. It got too expensive and I started to feel mortal.
IamDarren: i was never very good, i did get so that i didn’t have to use the V method and could turn well but the moguls kicked my ass.
StraightUpCigars: You guys would school me. I’ve only done Missouri skiing which is fake snow and shorter hills
IamDarren: We went to Keystone and Copper i think.
Terry1: The C&C is really mellowing out. I’m starting the second third. Still very creamy with a slight sweet, earthy note. The spice is all but gone on mine.
IamDarren: mine is being weird. About every third or forth puff has a pepper blast and then it mellows right out on the next draw
StraightUpCigars: Mine still is pretty darn spicy. The construction is great, though. Perfect draw.
IamDarren: My brother in law was looking at getting an M4 rifle before that shooting happend, he said that since then they have all been bought up. I wonder what they are gonna do about the gun control laws now?
IamDarren: most places are even sold out of the ammo
Terry1: Overreact just like the smoking laws.
IamDarren: well obviously people are worried
Terry1: I don’t know if you saw this on the news but Utah is training hundreds of their teachers to shoot a handgun. And Utah allows concealed weapons in the schools.
StraightUpCigars: Illinois banned guns today. Any gun that accepts a magazine. Virtually all handguns and most rifles.
StraightUpCigars: What you own goes to the grave with you and has to be registered. You cannot buy or sell them there anymore.
IamDarren: no shit? i bet there are gonna be some hellish protests
IamDarren: im actually thinking about buying a pistol and getting my conceal and carry

Terry1: I’m thinking the same thing Darren. We had a crazy go into a mall a few years ago and kill a bunch of people. I’d like to be able to defend myself until the authorities show up.
StraightUpCigars: You should do it. Brownells.com sold more ammo in the two days after Obama’s announcement than in the 3 years prior. There are no rifle mags left to buy on the internet. It’s crazy. If you’re going to buy, now may be the time if the feds pass the same restrictions as in Illinois.
StraightUpCigars: I’m passionate about my guns
Terry1: Back to the cigar, just getting over the half way mark. I now get the cinnamon. It’s leaving a slight burn in my mouth. Other than that mine is staying creamy and mellow. I like it but I’m a little surprised. I thought it would be more of a pepper bomb.
IamDarren: i think there are a lot of people in this country that are, so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
StraightUpCigars: Mine is STILL nice and peppery. I wonder if my shallower cut has anything to do with it.
Terry1: Maybe. Mine could be affected by the cold. It’s only 30 in the man cave tonight. My senses may be a little numb.
StraightUpCigars: I went offline for a minute. I was saying, I think the single digit weather is keeping your burn colder
IamDarren: same here, i think it kicked us all off
StraightUpCigars: While you guys are refreshing the page, I recommend this handgun: http://www.ruger.com/products/sr9c/index.html 10 round mag for concealing and 17 round mags for home defense. Very versatile and affordable gun.

IamDarren: i was looking at a S&W M&P 9mm
Terry1: Okay now mine is changing. Into the last third and the pepper is coming back. I tried to smoke a little faster to heat up the cigar and the pepper increased.
StraightUpCigars: I’ve heard good things about those Darren. In the final third too, and my cigar is completely delicious. I think my pepper has faded now finally
Terry1: That Ruger looks like something I’d like.
StraightUpCigars: It’s really comfy and light. Not so small that you can’t hold it. I have shot all kinds of ammo through it without a misfeed yet.

IamDarren: this is the model i was looking at
Terry1: Matt I agree with the cigar. It’s becoming my favorite out of the three C&Cs we’ve tried. It’s the one I’d buy again.
StraightUpCigars: Well said, same here. Such a good value.
IamDarren: my flavor is building quite a bit going into the last third. Sweetness is back and mixing with the pepper and spice nicely, also im picking up some cedar. Lots of flavor.
StraightUpCigars: Darren, I think you’ll have to determine what kind of weight you are comfortable with carrying around all day. 17 rounds is a whole lot heavier than 10. There are also safety features on the Ruger (and Springfield XD) that are lacking on that S&W. I have heard they shoot great, though.
StraightUpCigars: Gary says: Oh yeah, that sounds great. Just send me the bones and I’ll do the group review. Of course by now you know I’m a SUC kind of guy. I don’t cut corners. I just call it like I SUC ’em.
IamDarren: lol, sounds like Gary!
IamDarren: i have held a few pistols and i like the larger grip so i don’t have a finger hanging off the gun, plus most of the time i am in my truck so i would keep a holster in my truck. Ruger makes great guns though so i will definitely consider it
StraightUpCigars: It sure does. My C&C is about done. It really packed a ton of flavor right up until the end. So good! And yeah, I hear ya Darren. Don’t forget the SR9c can do this: http://images.maxpawn.com/production/Images/ITEMS/Zb5/00/14/68c000844d83d766df5a654e07.jpg
Terry1: I just set my cigar down. Good cigar. Good value.
IamDarren: im almost at the nub and the flavor is still great
IamDarren: isn’t the SR9c just a shorter version of the SR9?
StraightUpCigars: It has a shorter barrel and grip that can accept 10 rd mags. BUT it also accepts the full size sr9 mags like the one pictured.
StraightUpCigars: All right, let’s rate em!
IamDarren: lets do it
Terry1: Looks good for the C&C Corojo. I’m going to head inside now and warm up. Thanks for the gun talk. I needed a recommendation to narrow the decision. See you next week.
