Bolivar Heritage – Cigar Review

Bolivar Heritage Cigar 2
Up for review is the Bolivar Heritage cigar.  The first thing you’ll notice about this one is the truly massive and boldly colored band.  Underneath is a nice looking dark wrapper leaf and a pigtail cap.  Once lit up we got a very rich mix of flavors similar to a slightly sweet red wine.  Some spice crept in and the sweetness waxed and waned as we smoked.  The construction was perfect on both of our review sticks.  Overall, we liked the straightforward and pleasant flavor, but it lacked a bit in complexity.  These are priced very fairly which makes it easy to recommend giving them a try!

Terry1: Took off the big red band that covered most of this Bolivar cigar. Rustic oily dark wrapper. Interesting construction with the pigtail cap and closed foot. Draw is good. Getting a sweet dark fruit note like a prune on the cold draw.
7:48 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice dark wrapper leaf and pigtail cap. My draw is a little firmer than I’d like – maybe it will open up. Slightly sweet tobacco smell.
7:48 PM
Terry1: Let’s light them up!
7:49 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lighting!
7:52 PM
Terry1: First thing that came to mind on the initial puffs was sweet red wine. Dark fruit, a mild sweetness and mild tannin. A few puffs more and the spice kicks in.
7:52 PM
StraightUpCigars: Getting a dark, bitter coffee and lots of tannins.
7:54 PM
StraightUpCigars: The draw is just fine on mine now that it’s been burning for a minute.
7:56 PM
StraightUpCigars: I have some sweetness creeping in – must be that sweet red wine flavor you described.
7:58 PM
Terry1: Pepper is getting stronger. Still getting a sweet note, maybe not a fruit note anymore, but a mild sweetness. Not getting any coffee yet but I’m detecting a floral note on the finish. Flavors are full for my palate.
7:59 PM
StraightUpCigars: Well said, very full flavors right off the bat. My over-sized freak band popped off without incident.
8:01 PM
Terry1: I just found this cigar on CI. That band is what’s on the cigar. Big fail on the band IMO.
8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: I agree, it’s hideous.
8:03 PM
Terry1: Price is around $4 on sale. Budget Bolivar? I guess if it smokes well it’s all good.
8:04 PM
StraightUpCigars: Wow, that’s super cheap for this brand.
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: Checked it out, the original non-cuban bolivar isn
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: t too expensive either, just $5
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: I always thought of them as a high end.
8:09 PM
Terry1: I thought the same thing. Maybe the Cuban version is high end. This is the first Bolivar I’ve tried. So far it’s pretty good. Pepper faded to something more enjoyable. I’m getting a pleasant sweet spicy note now. Burn has been spot on.
8:13 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is mellowing right now – getting more sweetness. I really like it at the moment.
8:15 PM
Terry1: Yeah I’m liking it too.
8:16 PM
StraightUpCigars: Burn is good on mine, nice and straight.
8:26 PM
Terry1: Over halfway, nothing new to report. This Bolivar is smoking well. Just enjoying the journey right now.
8:26 PM
StraightUpCigars: Same here. More of the same, which is fine. Good smoke production on it – I like the construction.
8:30 PM
StraightUpCigars: It got cold here tonight – trying to maximize my hands in the pockets time… makes typing difficult!
8:33 PM
Terry1: Lol I’m glad I can smoke indoors in my shed. It’s not palatial but it is warm. Sweetness has fading some. Getting that coffee note you mentioned. Burn has gone a little wavy and I might have to touch it up soon. Otherwise I’m enjoying the cigar.
8:38 PM
Terry1: Surprised I didn’t need the lighter. Burn self corrected. Starting to feel a little nic kick.
8:39 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice – I can feel this one too.
8:46 PM
StraightUpCigars: Spice is ramping up here at the end, but the flavors are mostly the same.
8:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is just about tapped.
8:54 PM
Terry1: I’m getting more spice on my lips towards the end too. Still getting the same sweet notes. Mine is about done too.
8:56 PM
StraightUpCigars: Ratings coming
8:58 PM
StraightUpCigars: Overall, no major flavor shifts but there were some subtle complexities and a generally pleasant flavor. I’d have another, I thought it was enjoyable.
8:59 PM
Terry1: I agreed with your score. Good solid cigar that has some nice simple flavors with a little complexity. I enjoyed this one and would recommend trying it.
