Alec Bradley Retreat Robusto
What happened here? This is fine looking cigar.
I purchased it off the net and when I received it I immediately noticed hard spots and it was seemingly overfilled.
I decided to let it chill in the humidor for a while hoping it would soften up and all would be ok.
After sitting in the humidor for 3 weeks it was time to give it a shot, even though it did not seem to soften up at all.
Sure enough, it was nearly unsmokable. After cutting it, the draw was virtually impossible. I tried everything from chewing it, to mashing it, to cutting deeper… it was a lost cause.
From what little smoke I was able to get from it, the flavor profile was good. Very earthy with hints of sweet and a pepper finish.
Now I doubt this is typical of Alec Bradley, but for a cigar in this price range it is entirely inexcusable.
I would be willing to try another AB cigar, but I don’t see myself paying for one for quite some time.
If I try another retreat with a different result, I will update this review.

I don’t regard me a cigar pro, regardless I do savour a nice smoke after supper often. Especially combined with a superb whisky! Great post! added!
Where did you get it from? CI? If so here is a little tidbit for you.. CI pays companies for the naming rights of a cigars, and then produces the cigar themselves and slaps the brand on it…
So a cigar that is exclusive to say CI most of the time isn’t even made by the company. CI just paid them X amount of money to use there name.
I have smoked these twice before (churchill), wasn’t too impressed as well. I left them in my humidor for about 4 weeks I received them in a sampler. Starts off slightly dry but does build up to a satisfactory taste, according to Thompson cigars these are exclusive to them. To carry the AB name I was expecting something alot better. Doesn’t hurt to try them but I wouldn’t buy in bulk.
