Up for review is the Alec Bradley Raices Cubanas. This is a cigar created by the Endemaño family for AB. It has a very nice looking wrapper leaf but a tight draw after cutting. Once lit up, we taste a coffee and nuts flavor with a hint of sweetness and some spice. A pepper flavor increases as the cigar progresses and the spice flavor gets bolder. The cigar tends to burn too hot towards the end, and the tight draw was troublesome throughout. Overall this was a good cigar, but wasn’t exceptional. The flavor profile was consistent to a fault, and the minor construction issues were an annoyance. Most importantly, it’s priced inexpensively, so this one is worth giving a shot.

Terry1: The Alec Bradley Raices Cubanas was whispering to me, pick me, pick me.
StraightUpCigars: Nice, back in a few.
StraightUpCigars: I don’t get much smell from the wrapper, but it’s a fantastic looking leaf. Drw is tight after cutting.
Terry1: I find it interesting the band does not indicate this is an Alec Bradley cigar. Nice medium brown wrapper. Mine is firmly packed too. I am getting a decent draw with a cedar note to it. Ready to light.
StraightUpCigars: I’m tasting a dry cedar flavor and nuts with some spice. Good start. Draw is fine, if a little tight.
Terry1: Pleasant start. Getting enough smoke to enjoy but the draw has tightened up a notch with the heat. There is a mild pepper zing in the sinus. Cedar, earth and a sweetness are coming through right away.
StraightUpCigars: How was TSO?
Terry1: Is was better than I expected. Those guys like the fire! Good light show and visual effects. I find it funny they’ve turned classical music and Christmas music into metal and it’s good!
StraightUpCigars: Lol, you can feel the heat from the flames no matter where you’re sitting. Awesome.
StraightUpCigars: Ash falls off quick, but digging the flavor so far. Getting some coffee now.
Terry1: I’m liking the cigar. All the flavors are playing nice. Pepper is more of a spice like you were getting, still some sweetness and a little coffee.
Terry1: Burn is getting wavy. Not enough to correct yet.
StraightUpCigars: I gotta admit, I’m always a little leary of this brand due to past construction issues. So far so good.
Terry1: I put AB into the same category as Rocky Patel as far percentage of blends I like. Most I find to be average and not something I would purchase again but a few are very good and end up in the rotation.
StraightUpCigars: Yeah, that’s fair, I agree. We’ve smoked a record low number of Patel cigars here. There’s a million and we’ve reviewed like 2 of them
StraightUpCigars: Thee spice is ramping up on mine, kinda like it.
Terry1: Have you noticed all the discontinued brands making a comeback in the catalogs? Most were not that good to start with and now they are being pushed again. Makes me wonder how much success they will have the second time around. Thank you FDA.
StraightUpCigars: That’s interesting, haven
StraightUpCigars: t noticed that. I bet they’ll release new blends under the old names.
Terry1: I’m hoping that is what is happening, using brands that were on the market before the predicate date. It’s like looking through a five year old catalog.
Terry1: Spice is still mellow on mine. Still getting some sweetness and the nutty flavor you mentioned. Not getting much of the coffee now. Burn self corrected. So far I’m enjoying the cigar. Would like a more open draw thou.
StraightUpCigars: Same here, a more open draw would be good. Totally smokeable though.
StraightUpCigars: Lost some of the wrapper leaf from the band. pretty bummed about that.
Terry1: My band popped off cleanly. The ash is the only issue. It tends to split and flake and fall off without warning.
StraightUpCigars: Mine is melting down a bit. Doing a burn correction and I have a chunk of wrapper hanging off. In all fairness, these aren’t perfect smoking conditions, but it’s throwing a fit.
Terry1: Mine is holding together well but the smoke is getting hot. I’ve got about an inch to go. I may have to end this one early. Flavors are the same. This cigar has been consistent in a good way I guess.
StraightUpCigars: Getting some pepper now and more spice. It really lingers in between puffs.
StraightUpCigars: I’ve liked it, but like you said it’s really consistent and not complex.
StraightUpCigars: Mine is getting hot too. I’m good with setting it down, before it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Terry1: Yeah I’m done. Good flavor still but it is getting hot. I keep expecting to see the wrapper burn through were I’m holding it.
StraightUpCigars: Working on ratings now.
StraightUpCigars: Flavors were good for the first 2 thirds. Consistent to a fault. Some construction problems. Not a bad buy at all, but nothing too special on this one.
Terry1: I agree. It was a good cigar. The draw and ash were a minor annoyance. Nothing special but nothing bad either. I would buy a fiver once in a while.
