Alec Bradley MAXX Brazil – Cigar Review Update

AB MAXX Cigar 2
This is an update of a previous review of the Alec Bradley Maxx Brazil.  These may have been recently discontinued so they are difficult to find.  This cigar has a great looking oily wrapper leaf and a good draw after cutting.  Once lit up, it starts off very peppery, but that fades away and a sweet chocolate flavor with some bitterness takes over.  Towards the end a mint flavor is present.  One of the sticks had construction issues, but the other two didn’t have any major issues.  Overall, this cigar has a pleasant flavor profile that leaves you craving more.  It’s a very good value and definitely worth giving a try.

StraightUpCigars: Nice draw after a shallow cut. Has a minty smell to the wrapper leaf. Nice oily wrapper.
7:41 PM
Terry1: Got a perfect draw on mine. There’s a pleasant barnyard note on the cold draw. Wrapper does have a nice sheen to it. Ready to light up.
7:44 PM
IamDarren: my band came off with the cello
7:44 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol, that’s all right. Lighting up!
7:45 PM
IamDarren: good construction, nice easy draw after the clip. Bit of cedar and spice on the cold draw. Lighting up!
7:47 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has started out very earthy with some pepper and a faint sweet flavor in the background.
7:49 PM
IamDarren: off to a great start, lit easily, nice amount of smoke. Im getting earth, sweet spice, and then some type of herbal character in the sinus and on the finish.
7:49 PM
Terry1: Mine is producing a lot of smoke. Getting a good amount of pepper in the sinus also some cedar, earth and mild sweetness. Good start.
7:52 PM
IamDarren: can’t quite place that last flavor note. At times it tastes a little like cocoa. Still, i do really like the flavor combo on this stick so far.
7:53 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine is running down one side, going to correct it.
7:57 PM
Terry1: I’m really liking the aroma but there is a lingering bitterness that coats my mouth. Need to drink some water to get rid of it. Burn still looks good on mine.
8:01 PM
StraightUpCigars: That correction fixed it. I am getting a bit of bitterness too, but I was guessing it was from my correction. Going to let it rest for a minute.
8:07 PM
StraightUpCigars: Let it rest for a minute and that fixed it. I think the trick is to smoke this one slow.
8:08 PM
IamDarren: i was just getting ready to say that. I got just a bit of bitterness until i slowed down. I honestly, really like the flavor of this stick. Mine has mellowed slightly and im getting a nice nectar type of sweetness that is mixing very well with the earthy, chocolately undertones.
8:09 PM
Terry1: My trick is to sip some Four Roses bourbon. Can’t taste the bitterness! I’ll slow down too. The flavors are pretty good.
8:12 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine has mellowed big time and taking on a chocolate sweetness.
8:17 PM
Terry1: The pepper is all but gone now. Same here on the chocolate sweetness. Still producing lots of creamy smoke and the burn is still good.
8:20 PM
StraightUpCigars: Another burn correction for me. Starting to get hints of that mint flavor that I remember this cigar by.
8:23 PM
Terry1: Maybe it’s the green band or you mentioning the mint but I’m detecting some mint on my cigar. Whatever it is it’s going well with the sweetness.
8:25 PM
IamDarren: past the halfway now, just sitting back taking long slow draws, enjoying the flavor. Medium to medium full body.
8:26 PM
IamDarren: Not getting any mint but the sweetness is a little different. Im still getting that herbal note with the sweetness.
8:28 PM
Terry1: Tried to look this up, curious about the price, and it looks like this one is no longer available.
8:29 PM
StraightUpCigars: Looks like a pretty similar result to my solo review many moons ago. That’s a bummer Terry, looks like this one was a “limited release” according to the comments on the review. http://straightupcigars.com/alec-bradley-maxx-brazil-cigar-review/

Terry1: I didn’t realize you already reviewed this one. The mint on mine is really ramping up. Getting it with every puff now. Still a pleasant sweetness coming through.
8:33 PM
StraightUpCigars: I didn’t want any spoilers for our review tonight! I’m happy to try it again. Looks like this small cigar shop still has some in stock: http://www.rleeermey.com/cigars/product/6/1211/Pirates-Gold-Rothschild-Maduro.html

IamDarren: I remembered smoking one of these a long time ago. I think you must have sent me one Matt.
8:35 PM
IamDarren: I wonder if the new Maxx has a similar profile to this one. Wrapper is different but the filler could be very similar since this cigar was such a success.
8:37 PM
StraightUpCigars: That could very well be, they could have been priced out of the Brazil wrapper due to the popularity you mentioned at the top of the review.
8:41 PM
IamDarren: Well one thing is for sure, these have aged well. Im sure by now these samples are a few years old.
8:44 PM
StraightUpCigars: Still have some burn issues as this one winds down. I might just be jinxed when it comes to AB cigars.
8:47 PM
IamDarren: I can say this has been the best AB cigar that i have ever smoked. Burn was great, flavor never turned bitter, wasn’t too complex but was enjoyable the whole length of the cigar.
8:47 PM
Terry1: You sent these out in 2012. Age has made this blend better. I had one of these in 2011 and wasn’t impressed. The chocolate is becoming the dominant flavor now. Burn is good and the ash is solid. Good smoke so far.
8:48 PM
StraightUpCigars: Lol! I did?
8:50 PM
IamDarren: Thats about what i figured…. Aged to perfection!
8:50 PM
Terry1: I date the cello when I get cigars. Helps me to remember how old something gets.
8:53 PM
IamDarren: smart man
8:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Very smart. I should be less lazy
8:55 PM
StraightUpCigars: Mine’s all finished up over here.
8:58 PM
IamDarren: same here, ready to review
8:58 PM
Terry1: I’m almost done. I can rate anytime.
Total: 46/50
9:03 PM
StraightUpCigars: Nice scores -hope they bring it back!
9:04 PM
Terry1: If you can find it, buy it and smoke it. Great tasting cigar. The bitterness on mine only lasted in the first third then went away. Construction on mine was great and I loved the draw and the smoke production.
9:05 PM
IamDarren: Mine was great all around. I do really think the aging did it a lot of good. Wish i could get more.
