Mystery Review: XXX
This cigar smells and looks great!
It has a very pungent cedary smell and the construction is quite firm throughout.
The Equadorian wrapper is flawless with only very small veins.
I cut and lit this torpedo and discovered that it had a nice even draw with just a little resistance.
The first third provided a slightly sweet and mellow smoke that was primarily creamy with a slightly sour woody finish. The second third was also creamy and introduced a peppery finish. The sour note increased in the final third, but never became bitter – that’s a good thing
The mild XXX cigar was very easy on the palette which was both a good and bad thing. It was a bit boring overall. The construction was great – it burned perfectly all the way down. I would recommend this only if you are a fan of mild cigars, or if you like the milder smokes as morning cigars.

I would say that you were reviewing the Padilla Achilles Robusto.
Whoops, I guess I need to make that clear. It is not any of the 3 giveaway cigars, it is something else.
Carlos Toraño Reserva Selecta
Nope, not the Toraño Reserva Selecta… how are those? I am looking at giving Toranos another shot after my first bad experience with the Exodus.
? Could be anything.
I’m going with ,,, o flip I dunno. RP Edge lite?
Sheesh. Hard.
How are the Toraño Reservas? Sweet, cedary, creamy, with an interesting sour note, but mild overall! Heh.
Who won the last contest?
The winner was Andrew B. for his comment “That’s quite a shape! I think I’d take it to a rabbi to get the tip of this little guy snipped”.
Heh… this one is gonna take a while!
Puros Indios Viejo
Nope, keep em coming!
But… but… With but one lonely guess, several of us are already out of the running…
For those still in, you might consider a hint (e.g., price range or price paid). Good luck to others!
There will be some hints coming if no one is able to get it. I can’t start giving out hints already… it’s only been a few days! Also, if this thing lasts a while, I’ll let everyone have a second guess… so check back in!
Is it an Agio Meharis Original?
Ecuadorian wrapper with a mild flavor……I’m guessing Connecticut shade
Ok, Im guessing a CAO Gold torpedo.
Time for a hint everyone! Darren’s post was spot on, “Ecuadorian wrapper with a mild flavor……I’m guessing Connecticut shade”. Nice work there, detective. Everyone that has already guessed can have a second guess!
Oh fudge, just NOT enough to go on! I mean, is this a BIG brand where “mild” is unexpected? Or was it an off-beat boutique? Were the tobaccos sourced from the usual suspects or from off the beaten paths? Were there any oils? Special flavors (anise? almonds?). Was it a regular ole torpedo (and is the torpedo the common shape for the brand?), or was it long/short/extended/bulged? How long was the smoke? Was the ash grey? How long did it hold on?
*sigh*
Okay: I’m shooting for the offbeat short: I’m going with
Avalon Juke Ebony; why? I dunno… that’s about as mild and generic I can go.
Oh, and at the risk of giving my competitors’ an advantage, there were many smokes I considered from your very own archives! To wit:
“a good mild bodied cigar, but it lacked a little in complexity.”
“If you are a fan of mild bodied cigars this would make an excellent choice”
“The flavors were mostly creamy with a little pepper from the filler and a nice sweet/sour finish”
But my assumption is (and I could, of course, be WRONG) that you are not simply visting the torpedo version of something you have already reviewed…
I agree Risgin, this is rediculously hard. I’ll give a couple more pointers. It is from a largish manufacturer. You are correct, this is not a cigar I have already reviewed. The torpedo is a common shape for this make/model. The wrapper was not particularly oily and I did not pick up on any special flavors… fairly standard tastes. The ash was a lighter gray, but not white. Hopefully all of that is helpful.
in your review you say that you cut into a torpedo but none of the three choices were a torpedo. The description sounds like the padilla achilles with the exception of the final third description. I’m going with padilla achilles.
Sorry Heath, post #2 says “Whoops, I guess I need to make that clear. It is not any of the 3 giveaway cigars, it is something else.”
Felipe Dominicana ’T’
“This a mild and relaxing smoke with a really nice Ecuador Connecticut shade wrapper.”
“The pre-light aroma is spectacular [with] the slightest sweetness on the cap.”
“The cigar fires up easily and burns perfectly right out of the gate…”
“The flavor is mild to medium-bodied, with a creamy, peppery taste and wonderful aroma.”
Excellent guess DJ, but it’s a larger brand then Felipe Dominicana.
Rats.
‘Nother round of guesses? I have a coupla more ideas (unless, of course, you prefer to release another hint first!)
Picture uploaded… guess away folks!
Graycliff G2
Yep: I’mma jonesin’ for more hinty, tis true!
Your index already HAS, e.g., RP Connecticut (‘cuz THAT woulda been my first guess you know…), and you said that you hadna reviewed this one yet.
So… um… where’d ya BUY this baby, hmmmm?
Also, when you say “largish manufacturer,” does that mean a commonish cigar? (‘cuz a “largish manufacturer” can make smaller batches or bins ya know!)
Hmmm… O.K. I’mma go ahead an’ guess:
CAO Gold Torpedo
Why?
Not in the index
Looks like the pic
Known for “barnyard” and “compost” pre-light (“pungent”)
“For beginners” (mild) and a “bargain”
Now: if’n I’m WRONG, well, some other hints for other guessers might have to do with the filler ‘n all (e.g., the CAO Gold is a rarity: Nicaragua!).
Thanks for makin’ me crazy!
DJ, check out my post # 16, I already guessed CAO Gold Torpedo.
Ack! Ack!
Admin: Yah, doofosity central here: lemme go back for another guess…
(Gee, Mike J: great minds and all that…. and I thought I checked for that… sheesh!)
Risgin is the winner!!! It is the Graycliff G2… nice work! I’ll be contacting you shortly for your mailing info and I’ll start up a new giveaway ASAP! Congrats!
Rats for me; congrats to thee!
